That's why I avoid using the Swedish (Herrang) term "Blues dancing:" because of the very confusion that results from it. Why add to the ambiguity? The term goes back at least to Mura Dehn using it in Spirit Moves, the dancing on film isn't exactly the same, a more "perfomy" vers...

I recently added one categorization split - I'm using basically 3 lunchboxes which hold a little less than a hundred CD sleeves each, and I'm using one of the 3 for just swing era stuff.

I'm happy with it. It gives harder to remember swing era artists a little more of a chance to get noticed..

Re: Neo-swing?!?!

I think sometimes "lindy hoppers" get so caught up in what kind of music they choose to like, the technique of their dancing, the politics of the scene, that they lose the spirit of fun, energy, and wildness that IS lindy hop. I'm not saying that it doesn't matter what kind of music you d...

ohhh, so that's why they thought it made sense to load down Two to Tango with all that extra studio stuff so you gotta jump to 3:16 remaining (memorized!) to play the actual track..

I've got an old sony es single disc that can do indexes - I'll hafta try it..

I <heart> my <a href="http://www.ttx1.com">TTX1</a>, but if you're not DJing with it, and carrying it around, you can go for different things in a turntable.. I'd get something that can spin at 78, cuz it's nice to have the option, but honestly, unless you have stuff on 78's that you absol...

Re: Dennis Rowland

Any other decent danceable Dennis Rowland songs out there besides "Wild Women Don't Have the Blues" (138 BPM), which is a pretty fun lindy song, in my opinion, if you like groovy vocals. All the other clips I have listened to sound pretty lame. He sings on a Basie album with Work Song and...

I haven't seen a reference to it being done at the Savoy, but I'm too young to remember either way. Somebody asked Frankie at SONW '00 in the panel discussion if there were any steps or dances from the savoy that hadn't come back that he wishes had (or something along those lines) and he mentioned ...

warning, his new CD is "different" intentional, but just not like the other ones. i find it more traditional than the others. still kick ass, but not the same Yeah... I was just listening to the samples, and thinking how much the singing reminded me of that Stanley Crouch chunk on Ken Bur...

I would love to hear Barbara fronting Mora's band. She does a great job on 'Drivin me Crazy/Moten Swing' off of the Johnny Otis Territory Bands cd.. definitely more traditional.. I only have her on that, and a Doc Severinson disc, but I guess she gets a little more play from me than Mora, cuz I've ...

Fletcher Henderson Big Reunion, 1957, I don't have it with me, but the personel listing is incredible, Coleman Hawkins and Ben Webster sitting next to each other on tenor, JC Higganbotham, Bennie Morton and Dickie Wells on trombones, Taft Jordan and Rex Stewart.. Jimmie Crawford on drums.. total jam...

Oh man the Ipod is just too good. I've had mine (5gig) for about a year now and love it. Don't worry about price I'm sure it'll drop in another 6 months when they release a 50 gig version. -Kevin Yeah... but then I'll want the 50 gig version! So, you can use it as a portable hard drive, but you hav...

Portable HD MP3 Player

So, I've been goofin with an Archos Jukebox 15 for a couple of days - it works alright, but the usb 1.0 is slow as hell, and the OS on it is kinda buggy. Anybody else have and recommend HD players? I figure it's a forgone conclusion that the ipod is the best, but it's there's a lot of 20gig players ...

The one thing that needs to be clarified is that in Argentine Tango, the individual songs are usually MUCH shorter than swing songs, AND you are generally expected to dance with ONE person for an entire set(like mak0tz said). The tenda allows for partner changes. Hahaha I'd like to see you at a mil...

since I dj too, I always feel kind of self conscious about making requests.. even though, ironically, I love it when people with good taste request stuff.. I should start forcing myself. I don't really have horror stories - if I don't wanna play something I don't..the only time anyone 'managementy' ...

I can't read the model# on that Denon - what is it? Pioneer now has the DMP-555 which plays CDs and MP3 CDs and has an SD slot that you can play MP3s from as well. Pretty slick if you don't want to burn an entire CD to try out a few songs. It's a dn-s5000, which might not actually play mp3s.. but.....
