Wait, there are dancers out there who come to dances armed with their favorite CDs to pester the DJs with!?! Favorite? No! The DJ should already have the favorites. A new song that the DJ might not be aware of, or in the case of student DJs, might not have the budget for? What's lame is a DJ foisti...

The worst playlist is the one that doesn't even make it through the dance, and you hear the same song two or three times in an evening.

There is one huge disadvantage of laptop DJ'ing though. It encourages irresponsible DJ'ing. It's way too easy to set up a playlist and go off and have a few dances. The number of times I have seen unattended laptops just sitting there chugging away while the DJ cuts a rug.... Actually, I can steal ...

Your laptop doesn't have an optical CD drive? (Oh my God, I just said the same thing as Reuben!) Actually, I should modify that many are moving away-- if not to a laptop, to an iPod, which is even worse, because of the total lack of accomodation for CDs. You apparently either have a lot of really b...

Oh, okay. Good for him.

It's only a problem if you're in denial, because how do you improve if you think that you can't improve? Ask all the questions: How complete is your collection? Are you stuck with one groove, or can you mix it up if you have to? Are you still making additions to your collection? If you're a regular,...

Re: Live bands v DJ'd music at dances

I've been thinking about the differences between live bands and DJ'd music at Lindy Hop dances. The odd thing is that a band's music is often harder to dance to than DJ'd music (often because the band aren't used to playing for dancers), but despite this a live band will consistently draw more peop...

Probably not the version I have, which might be London Symphony Orchestra. I also like their Never on Sunday as a Fox Trot.

"It's Oh So Quiet" has slow waltz verses and a faster 4/4 refrain. That and Gling-Glo are some Bjork that DJs will play, with good results too.

Just don't wear the novelty out.

Another post that got erased. Have you tried Associated Production Music? ONce you buy the CD or download, you have permission to use the music. They have lots of different tunes, and it's good to be perfectly clear on the legality of your soundtrack-- don't want no Officer and a Gentleman, Quantum ...

My message got lost. I said how my Scunsi steamer melted some gunk that adhered to my carpet. It melts grease. Great on blinds. Got it at Walgreen's.
