When people go out to dance - they want to hear some familiar songs. The key is when and how to rotate them in. You gotta mix it up. Probably the worst thing you can play isn't an 'overplayed' song, but a set that's filled with a bunch of 'overplayed' songs in a row. One thing I find when I explore ...

It's been refered to on this thread, so I'll just accent it - but I'd say the common trait with a good DJ/dancer that a bad DJ/dancer has is listening skills! At least as far as those bad wedding style DJs who play their same swings songs are concerned. They don't even know what makes a good lindy s...

Re: 'Overplayed' or 'Favourite'?
I guess I would like to pose the question of everyone as to whether 'overplayed' is a perjorative term. I mean, if you play a song a lot, it could be classified as 'overplayed', or it could be classified as a 'favourite'. I suppose a song in the national scene can be considered overplayed when it's...

I have this one song that has a fade IN AND a fade out. Janis Siegel - I Want you to be my Baby. I hate the Fade in.... I hate the Fade out - but I can't help but play it from time to time cuz I just love what's inbetween. But if I ever meet the producer of her album, I'm gonna give him a piece of m...

Let me clarify what I meant when I said dancers needed a separation - I certainly didn't mean a dancer wants a noticable separation or a break. If the dancers notice a space it usually means that the flow has just been ruined. But as a dancer myself, I'd like enough of a hint that I can end a dance ...

I agree that it all depends. I don't think there's necessarily a 2 or 3 second rule. Although the radio guy in me thinks it's cool when you can blend songs into another, I know that dancers for the most part would like a separation between songs so they can at least finish their dance and begin to m...
