I put music in quotes just to see if anyone would notice. I always love it when people start arguing about whether or not hip-hop/rap is music.

hip hop "music"

Any suggestions for good hip hop songs to play during your average lindy night? I like to play one every once in a while, but I'm getting tired of my 3 or 4 hip hop CDs, which include Jurassic 5, Millenium Hip Hop collection, Digable Planets, and the soundtrack to Dr. Doolittle of all things. Anybody?

In San Diego, "Rhythm" by Casey MacGill often seems to ignite a spontaneous jam.

I'm thinking a possibility is that they could have choreographed it to a different song (from what I hear is true, apparently it's done to Jumpin' At The Woodside) and the musicians could have written the music to the dancing? I don't know on that part, it's all just speculation According to Norma ...

You never see the musicians and the dancers in the same scene, only the same set. Add to that the fact already mentioned that they would have danced to a recording as opposed to a live playing (multiple takes = hell to edit) it's possible (but I personally don't know) whether they danced to JATW - ...

I thought the song in the film was overdubbed and that they danced to a different tune. Anyone know? Of course it's overdubbed. That scene is made up of a bunch of clips from different takes. They didn't just go out and dance once and then leave. It took something like 2 weeks to film the Helzapopp...

As a dancer it drives me nuts where there isn't a gap since half the time whoever I'm dancing with doesn't realize the song is ending and then all of a sudden notices "wait, this is another song" and then you've got that nervous little moment where you try to decide if you should dance an...

In the Helzapoppin' video, Slim is playing instruments and singing. He's the one that says, "If I'm not mistaken, here comes something NOW!" And if I'm not mistaken, it's Slam playing bass (someone correct me if I'm wrong). I'm not sure whether he wrote the song or not, but he's definitely...

...because it takes away any energy and such the original soundtrack had. In general, I don't like to use the pitch control, because I usually don't need to and because I like to stay true to the artist's vision. However, if used correctly on the right song, it's hard to tell it's been changed. The...

I usually have a 3-second silence, unless it's one of those occasional agonizing nights with small attendance and a weird atmosphere. Those nights I have a longer silence, so that I don't have to play as many songs.

My vote is for the web-based forum. As I get more and more busy with work, I find myself with less and less time to waste, and I'd rather just be able to scroll past meaningless messages, and not even click on meaningless threads, than be forced to click on each and every message to be able to deter...

If I'm not mistaken, Gene Harris has a pretty good version.
