Couldn't tell ya... I guess he meant stuff that sounded romantic or nice? Probably stuff we'd consider "sappy".

I know the older dancers/listeners like it when I play older Ellington or any kind of Ella stuff.

Either way, the guy seemed to give a nice compliment.

Just heard on my local oldies station that Ray Charles has died. Has anyone seen anything online?

Paul and Jonathan ~

I'm curious to know how much you "work with" DJs or talk about band breaks with them. My experience is limited and not really that good. As in the bands/singers I've dealt with didn't give me much info to work with.

It seems like you're saying "Either we pay $250 extra to fly in a DJ or we use local DJs and save $250". My response to that would be, "If you're not going to fly a DJ in for $250, well then that's $250 extra dollars in cash you have to pay the local DJs you are using, not $250 extra...

Didn't Irving Berlin write "Blue Skies" after the birth of his first child or something? Maybe that's an idea...

Events are not a difficult thing to run. Yes, there are a lot of things to do, organize, and coordinate. but by no means are they difficult. Most of it takes common sense, something that is far too uncommon in swing promoters. That is the kind of statement I find arrogant and I think that's an extr...

That is no excuse for not paying DJ's. The reason why events lose money is because the promotes made a mistake somewhere along the line. (with exceptions that are beyond the control of the promoters, i.e. 9/11) I have talked to many promoters and wanna be promoters in the scene, and I have, to this...
