Re: Most Ella Fitzgerald/Chick Webb songs "disposable&a

The Wikipedia entry for Ella Fitzgerald says of her late 1930s recordings with Chick Webb: Ella recorded nearly 150 sides during her time with the orchestra, most of which, like "A-Tisket, A-Tasket", were "novelties and disposable pop fluff." That sounds like vandalism or a POV ...

I find that the biggest trouble with a live band is when they want to show off their jams, while a dancer needs a song. A dancer is always reacting to the music, whereas the band is in full control of the music. Fast tempos, non-tonality, unusual structures, etc. show off a band's talents, but it ju...

Re: Safe DJaying from iTunes

One problem with iTunes is I can't play a SINGLE track only. Does anyone have any suggestions? Couldn't you have or make a blank track, so that it wouldn't be a problem? I was thinking about doing that with my XBox 360, so I can get whatever song I want to start at the start of a race, not when I s...

Yes, you'll never truly know it works until you try to dance to it, no matter how many times you've listened to it before.

Finally, one of my Desert Island Discs, Steve Tyrell You really like him? He stinks. His other albums aren't as great, but my clients wouldn't complain if I had it playing in the background, and that's what counts, because I can't otherwise get away with a lot of big band or jazz, and definitely no...

I tried to get some suggestions in before, but the post got deleted when I had to reauthenticate. Seeing as this thread is also useful for your dad's birthday and Father's Day, I thought it'd be worthwile to try again.... Given that your Dad's gone from 70's music to public radio, finding gypsy jazz...

Always have a backup song ready. Mistakes can be undone. Don't think of your playlist as an order you have to get through. You are not a band. Instead create connections between the songs of your collection, so that you will be prepared for a game of Mornington Crescent. Be aware of pack mentality. ...

Disco line dances

I am having a hard time writing long posts. Apparently, I'm getting logged off before I'm done, and it results in losing my work. Anyway, my dad was asking me about other music, like the Cha Cha Slide, Macarena, etc., for a New Year's party. The one that stumped me was a line dance that sounde...

Remember, free for you does NOT mean free for him. Actually, giving away some CD's can lead to selling many more. The word is CAN. There are no guarantees. He's probably kissed goodbye a lot of hard earned money to have the CD produced, and with the availability of CD burners, pirating personally hu...

But is the manouche jazz sub-genre (gypsy swing) a bit too esoteric for a large festival? Absolutely not. A local band, The Hot Club of Detroit has a good support from our swing dancers-- perhaps better than the dance scene itself, although the influence of Adam Boehmer and 20's Charleston no doubt...

I checked this site as soon as I heard. A younger friend of mine was hopefully inspired by seeing him live-- may that inspiration live on.

Great database to search from, and you can even hum the tunes you don't know. I like using it as a plagarism check for my songwriting, but I probably just can't sing anymore.

I had enjoyed "Candyman" and "Nasty Naughty Boy" for their potential to invigorate a swing scene. So far, it hasn't happened, although Blues meant a little more success for NNB. "Candyman" probably invokes more neo-Swing than real Swing.
