I think they get a certain amount of flow from being the same band who played the last song, so to speak.. (kinda like, if everything you played was old testament basie, how bad can the transition ever get?)

on my "I-wish-I-never-bought-it" Panama Francis live stuff, he gives a little speech before they play In the Mood, in their own defense, I think, about how it was written by a sax player in Edgar Hayes band and arranged by Eddie Durham.. I should dig it up and find the exact quote..

intros are easy enough to skip.. but with most swing era stuff, it's more that the first minute and a half to two minutes often build up to the big exciting part at the end.. to solve that, you'd have to start halfway through the song, which would be way too awkward for the dancers.. my guess is tha...

here's my gripe about competition music - for the last contest I dj'd, which was at a west coast event, and they had me fade all of the songs after 1:30-2:00.. I think I actually used Who Ya Hunchin, and it's a crime against humanity to fade that song before it builds to a climax. I like the comment...
