Big Mabel / Ann Margret

I was in a bookstore the other day and heard some really good music from someone called "Big Mabel". Can anyone here recommend some specific titles ? Also, on the Biography channel, I saw a special on Ann Margret. I heard some of the songs she did earlier in her carreer and she could swing...

One fast number I really like is Benny Carter's rendition of Perdido. It's over 7 minutes long though. On the faster tempo stuff: I like to play music that has a bit of a Dixieland feel to it. It gets the folks to finally use the Charleston stuff they've been learning in class. I also like to play a...

If I need to speed up or slow a song, I use Cool Pro to do it before I burn my mixes. Since 1999, I've only done this to 3 songs that I can think of. I rarely got good results for the effort. (Cool Edit Pro has a pitch control to keep the pitch as original as possible).

DJ'ing in "Tendas"

I spoke to a DJ for the Montreal Argentina Tango scene last week. He was explaining to me that the way the DJ's DJ for a dance in both Montreal and (apparently) in Argentina is something like this. 1 Set of Tango taking music only from 1 orchestra in 1 period. If you don't have enough music of one o...
