I would prefer for people to not do the following things: 1) make obvious statements in response to others' posts 2) make tengential assumptions 3) make passive aggressive comments and veiled sarcastic jabs 4) make arrogant posts that state your opinion as though it were a basic, well-known, accept...

History of Jazz ... in 5 minutes
I have a speech class in which I have a group speech about the history of music. I'm supposed to cover music from african slaves and the creation of jazz all the way to early rock'n'roll (Louis Jordan, Bill Haley...)

I don't like Winamps form of moving to the next song, BPM studio has this nice customizable crossfade. It's perfect. Just wondering, Gem, how do you use the cross fade when DJing lindy events? Personally, I prefer not fading between songs and allowing that small gap to be there. It allows people to...

I doubt that exposing a scene to better dancers for a weekend makes for better local dancers - unless it's partnered with instruction. I think many scenes are having exchanges because it's cool or it's fun or it's expected of them. Kalman I would slightly disagree. There are many occasions when new...

Just install two instances of the latest version of WinAmp. After playing with iTunes and WinAmp for a while, this is the route I'll be taking. Just make sure you have plenty of memory, because running 2 copies of WinAmp on a wimpy machine can lead to disasters. I used to have situations when I was...

I helped organize a dance lesson for my church, and when we were setting up the dance area one lady who had a lot of experience hosting made sure we set a smaller rather than larger area. Easier to attain critical mass if the people attending fill the space. People never believe me when I tell them...

I think the size of the venue is less important than the size of the crowd. Good crowds in a small or a large venue are great. I don't know which is worse, though, a small crowd in a small venue or a small crowd in a large venue. Probably the former, because it ends up feeling like a bunch of people...
