IMHO the person who I've heard recently do the best job of mid-tempo high energy fun to dance to songs is Mike Faltesek. The songs he plays are very rhythmically interesting - in particular I loved his set late night at CJ this year. What is 'CJ' :?: Camp Jitterbug. Biggest lindy hop event in Seatt...

... ...That's enough awfulness for now. But for the rest, I don't think I've ever heard them played. I was thinking the same thing when I read Dave's post and just thought it had to do with playing swing music in the Canadian plains [i.e. these are local issues], reaffirmed by the DJ from Manitoba'...

I think you might be surprised. I hear a lot of Artie's music (and I play a lot -- one of my favorites!)............... I don't believe Shaw is overplayed, however. it's not overplayed because it is. :P or perhaps it's not overplayed even though it is because it's just so damn good. I always get co...

Yes. We owe the lineage of "jank" to Giselle and Reuben; but Leigh coined it and made it his own. We just copied Leigh. I hope this is well documented in some future tome.

Freddie - I'm enjoying it too. Nice use of the work "janky" in your commentary. ha ha. Were you referring to me?

Sam - I enjoyed your post! Blues in Hoss Flat used to be one of my absolute go-to songs; it had been recommended on this forum. It's a great song. Here is my top 10 list. This is over 15 months of dj'ing off of a laptop: 28 plays - Ain't Misbehavin'|Sidney Bechet|Blues In Thirds 1940-41 24 plays - I...

Something I've noticed but not quite sure of the real reason: the Djs here who DJ off of Macs have a much harder time driving the volume than PCs. I Dj off of a pretty new Dell with a Turtle USB card. We've had a situation at one of our local venues where the sound system is at 50% volume of what it...

I don't mean to be cruel, but if you can't find a way on to the dance floor on a crowded night, then you're not trying hard enough or you don't really want to be there anyway. If you want to try to thin the floor a bit, do what others have suggested and just keep upping the tempo -- people get tire...

Since I haven't posted in a while I may as well make up for it here ;-) This is my take on how these songs are currently being treated in Seattle [other Seattle folk feel free to jump in since it's tough to make it to ALL the dances in Seattle ALL the time]. *****************************************...

I think the following might be included on a list of 'overplayed' songs in 2008 Really? Sounds like a night at the original Memories, circa 1999. I was reminiscing with Peter Loggins the other night about being at Memories in 2000 and hearing you yell out of the DJ booth about spinning some really ...

As a someone who buys music quite regularly, I often find it difficult not to play too much new music. I have played sets where I've jammed in all my new favourites (at one point I'd just bought 2 or 3 Mosaic sets in a sale - zillions and zillions of fabulous new songs) and suddenly realised that t...
