As for your question, two words: Al Green. Yes :) Recently, I really enjoy playing Otis Redding, Irma Thomas, and Rufus Thomas. I find them to have a very raw, gutteral, primal energy that makes me literally want to "move". I get the same feeling from their music like I get from Chick Web...

So while I love hearing lesser-known soul tunes, they're not going to make me or anyone else jump up and shout, "Oh, snap! That's my JAM!" if we don't recognize the song. And at about 3, 4, 5am on the last night of an event, most people need all the motivation they can get to keep moving....

Yes, that is correct, he mentions that in the video clip. I was amazed at the difference between Louis' face when he is laughing and when he is blowing the trumpet. One moment he is all crazy kid, and the next dead focused... It is nice to think about these two guys, one black, one white, playing to...

I've got an album by Rex Stewart And Wingy Manone called "Trumpet Jive". http://www.emusic.com/album/10604/10604794.html It has diverse recordings in very good and crisp sound quality. Some songs are weird, but are some are great and feature solid swinging jazz with strong New Orleans, Blu...

DJing Soul music in Lindy Events

I've noticed in a recent lindy exchange that some of the DJs tried to play soul music for some of the late night dancing, following a trend that happened in the recent couple of years or so. Personally, I don't want to argue whether it is proper or not, but I rather put some recomendations for good ...

Latin Swing

Hi I have found several classic swing played by Salsa and Latin Jazz bands. If you ever wanted to mix Salsa into your swing set, these could be a good place to start. You can look them up on iTunes/Amazon/Your other sources. Arturo Sandoval - The A Train Tito Puente - Sweet Georgia Brown (Out Of Thi...

This version proves that the song is not bad at all - only subsequent covers. Stompy as hell, and probably excellent for balboa. Thank you, Mary Ann! I have a blues harmonica version by Walter Horton from "Sun Records 25 Rare Blues Classics" (2003). It's up on emusic.com if you want to ch...

Useless Song Trivia?

I've read at Mora's Modern Rhythmists site that last year's DJ favourite A Viper's Moan/Willie Bryant was actually written by Leonard Reed, Famous tap dancer and charleston champion, also known as the co-choreographer of the Shim Sham (w/ Willie Bryant).

Any info?
