Does anybody know the cost? gemini stuff is so badly made it's practically disposable.. Numark has one for 500.. I played around with their 300 dual cd player, and I was really impressed with how much better the build quality was from 2 yrs ago.. What I want is a pair of these: http://denon.jp/asia...

The world is not so tuned into the L.A./Orange County/D.C. preference for lo-fi Swing Era stuff as some want to think it is. I think you can safely add Seattle to the list of places with a strong preference for it.. ..and while it's not the majority of music played in portland, it's certainly well ...

Count Basie _The Octet Sounds - (not exactly swing era, but documents basie small 1950 band with buddy defranco and clark terry) ooh - does that have Bluebeard Blues? I've got a copy of that on a real generic "Blues By Basie" LP, and I recently picked up another LP with some Octet stuff, ...

Some good "Lindy Hop" music

Without digging too deep into the politics of definitions - I have no trouble with the idea that only a portion of what I play fits solidly into the category of a stricter definition of Lindy Hop music - that being said - I want some recommendations to pick up some more of that stuff... (not cuz I'm...

he mostly just sings, but the side men aren't bad. *drool* that's an understatement! When I was lookin around, I spotted another album called Songs for Tired Lovers - I wouldn't expect much from the music, but it's a great album cover... if I ever spot it on LP maybe it'll get a place next to "...

Re: post swing era white guys

There are about 2 or 3 songs from each of those folks that I'll play, but I'm sure it's swing era stuff. I don't play any Kenton stuff unless I'm asked to. There are some good era Herman and Brown tunes though... Most of the post era stuff is too jazzy (in a non-dancing way) or are rehashed "h...

So maybe, those from the westie world who wish for a solid beat and interesting songs will xover to the rhythms of slower lindy Dj's (just a thought) Last time I was DJing for westies I got a request for less pop/funk stuff and more blues/smooth.. since it's as close as I had, I put in a lot ...

post swing era white guys

Anybody DJ much Woody Herman or Stan Kenton, or Les Brown even? I've got some Woody Herman stuff from 45-47 that's been really growing on me, but I'm pretty ignorant of what else is good from those guys after the swing era (and what's gonna end up sounding like all that "Artistry in.." gar...

Re: Good Jam Songs

Ok, so I would like to know what everyone out there think is a good jam song, what song makes everyone want to gather in a circle and bust out. Also, what songs do people like to play to try and get jams started? Harrison I'm much better at killing jams than starting them.. the Harry James recordin...

Blues in Orbit is such a phenomenal album - it might be entirely psychological cuz I know it was recorded in the middle of the night, but it's just such perfect late night music..

Scott Hamilton makes me happy

I'm pretty sure the first recording I picked up with him was some Rosemary Clooney on Concord, and since I've been picking up stuff under his name, and it's all great. The Concord 'best of'ish disc for him is especially nice, though, the songs are on the long side, and since they're small groups, no...

Nope. But I use a Behringer Feedback Destroyer Pro DSP1124p . It took me a few times to figure out how to set it up, but once I figured it out it made an amazing difference in the sound quality. Cool! I recommended it to the viscount, they figured out that dropping a couple of specific freq's on an...
