It begs the question - Why didn't actual jazz musicians get involved in the 'swing craze' of the late 90s? Most of the guys with big bands that I knew were so totally clueless about what was happening outside of their jazz or nostalgia worlds. They had heard something about it somewhere, but paid no...

Re: Duke Ellington and “Lets get together”

Duke Ellington and “Lets get together” I’ve been told that Duke made another recording of “Lets get together” possibly in the 60’s. If this recording does exist I’m having problems locating it. It may only be on LP. Has anyone come across such a recording? Brian :D fwiw - It is fairly unlikely that...

Re: Charlie Barnet

So, no one has started talking about him. I guess I'll beg people to. I'm addicted to a CD I have of him, but have not been able to find any more while browsing. What are your favorite albums for DJing? For listening? What about specific songs? For Charlie Barnett Id say the band was at it's best w...

Someone up there raised a good point about the 'distance' of neo-swing to new dancers. It's history. Real Swing and neo-Swing may both be alien concepts to newer sceners. At least classic gets some exposure in movies and tv shows. More people listened to it over the decades then people did neo-swing...

why you don't like 'real' Swing I like most forms of music, including traditional swing. The only "genre" I dislike as a whole is disco, because I find the beat far too overpowering, which starts out boring and quickly becomes intolerable. Some genres - rap, contemporary pop, and (lately)...

Hi Gary-

Instead of the reply you wanted, can I ask you why you don't like 'real' Swing. I'm not sure that you don't like it, but your post indicates a preference for Neo.

I thought I had read that some fellow jazz musician had brought him some marijuana while he was in the hospital. And there is the famous jazz musician who died in a taxi cab crash circa 1930...I think it was Frank Teschmaker.....he died and Wild Bill Davidson, who was also in the cab, lived. My deta...

Trombonist Tommy Turk was shot to death during a convenience store robbery where he just happened to be shopping. Trombonist Frank Rosolino killed himself, wife and child. Walter Barnes died in a fire (or as the result of a fire) in a southern barn in which his Royal Creolians band was playing. Tomm...
