I don't care if it's free, I'm not going to carry something that my enjoyment of would run a close second to chewing a mouthful of ground glass. I'm not there to please all those making a request and could never do it anyway. I'm more about getting their desired feeling from within my own collection...

Re: Neo Swing in your binder?
What have you done with your neo-swing c.d's? I've got it all packed away. Back in 1998 I regularly DJed at a club in Minneapolis, spinning all of the popular neo swing releases, but since then the music has definitely gone out of fashion. A few months ago I did break out the collection, putting to...

Heh. Roomful of Blues rocks. My Neo collection was stolen about 2 years ago, which was a mixed blessing. I have since gone back to replace the staples - RCR, Indigo, Joe Jackson, Lavay, Johnny Reno, etc - but have somehow managed to avoid getting the really, really bad acts this second time around. ...

Objections are my stock and trade - I'm in sales (the second dirty science). I have not done it yet - I wanted to test the waters a bit. There are some local bands that I could trade on, playing music around their sets, as you mentioned above. My main concern is to begin building up a following of d...

All right - Kalman on drugs not good. I put this here because DJ Skillz was about the closest fit on the board. I am considering approaching local clubs, bistros, what-have-you as a professional DJ specializing in wide-ranging, swinging jazz. I know a few people have done some other DJ scenes but I ...

DJing Non-Swing Venues as a Paying Gig
Anyone ever done this? I'm very much considering going to a few select clubs as a swing/jazz DJ for listeners, as opposed to dancers. By clubs, I mean bistros, cafes, small but upscale clubs that either have no space for a band or traditionally hire bad ones. So, I am looking to see if this has been...
