I've often thought that the Cab Calloway version of Boog It! might work. I've never actually sat down (or danced it, as the case may be) and tried to see if it does.

What do you folks think?

Well I would have to listen to what Frankie Manning said about the Savoy.

The only way they could clear the hall was to play a waltz. :o

I've used CDs, mostly. When I've used a laptop, it's usually been for a few, select tracks. Personally, I'm pretty happy with CDs. There are probably plenty of software suggestions in the Laptop DJing thread. I like CD's too, :D using a laptop is out of necessity as none of the venues in my scene h...

Any suggestions? Something similar with fewer bells and whisltes

Ots Turntables

I've downloaded the free trial of this software and I'm thinking of purchasing the full version. At first glance I like it. Comes very close to using actual CD turntables and a mixer. Probably has a few too many bells and whistles though. But it's made by and Aussie company and I always like support...

Yes it's in an excel spreadsheet (but easily convertible to other forms).

Batch editing tags

Hi All,

I'm digitising my music collection and I was wondering how I can cut paste some fields (like bpm, comments and various other fields from a database that I made of my CD's) into the ID tags of the MP3s as I rip them?

Thanks

Well I didn't quite make my way all the way back through the epic thread of doom but I read the last two years worth of that one and all the other thread (and a couple of others). Answers a few questions (so I will need a 2nd sound card, but it sounds like they aren't too expensive). But it's raised...

Laptop suggestions?

Well the graphics card in my computer has up and died on me so it's time to get a new machine. I've been thinking of getting a laptop and if I do, I'd like to use it for dj'ing. I know next to nothing about dj'ing from a laptop (aside from just whacking an ITunes/WMP/Winamp playlist together) so I'm...

Slim and Slam

I'm looking to acquire some Slim and Slam. Any recommendations?

I also need some early Basie (it's a travesty - my Basie collection consists of two CD's). What should I look out for.

Thanks

There is one huge disadvantage of laptop DJ'ing though.

It encourages irresponsible DJ'ing. It's way too easy to set up a playlist and go off and have a few dances. The number of times I have seen unattended laptops just sitting there chugging away while the DJ cuts a rug....

I've seen Basin Street Blues mentioned. One of the versions I have doesn't slow down again but keeps going with double tempo till the end. I think it transitions quite nicely with the drum solo, though you need to pay attention to your phrasing to transition when you're dancing. There's a Glenn Mill...
