Joshua Welter I'm surprised he'd have a problem with Woodside Live @ Sands... I would think it's probably a matter of him preferring the classic version (as everyone does) rather then an actual dancability issue. Edit: I just relistened to Woodside Live @ Sands to make sure I'm not off my rocker. A...

Just a quick update for y'all, it was really incredible to be able to dance to Ernestine Anderson at the Century Ballroom last Saturday night. She did an hour set with Opus One, Chester Whitmore's big band; she did mostly new material in her sets, but ended with "Never Make Your Move Too Soon&q...

We apparently don't listen closely enough to some cuts we play often. I hear the exact same "glitches" when relistening to the version I have and play often, found on The Last Decca Years . I doubt they are clear when played at dances, but I can hear one of the glitches quite clearly when...

I played Jumpin' at the Woodside from Live at the Sands album once and got feedback from a dancer who I respect a lot and who can lindy hop at very fast tempos - he said that version was really hard to dance to for him and that the drum style obscured the beat. So I nixed that version from my playl...

Re: big band version of "all shook up"

I heard an awesome big band version of Elvis's "all shook up" on the radio tonight. The singer was so-so, but the band was hoppin'. Anyone know the name of the group/singer so I can locate this song? It'd be great to bal to. Thanks, Rob well Brian Setzer recorded it; that would be my gues...

So, does anyone have an unedited version of Goody Goody? Mine is from 75th Birthday Celebration ... (Or could this have been an original tape edit because it is quite late (1952)?) ?? never noticed these edits, and this is a song I play a lot and get good response from. Maybe you have a bad CD?

This is a fun little game; the players don't sound as professional as Jonah Jones et al, but listening to some of his albums makes me want to get some: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:3zfoxqehldte and although Earl Hines big band is good, I love his later small group work. as far...

Jonathan Stout Orchestra at Camp Hollywood

Just wanted to give a shout out to everyone about how AWESOME Jonathan's band was last weekend. That's the best night of dancing I've had in a long time; every dance was enjoyable, even at a variety of tempos, to me that is a mark of a solid swinging band. They also played a lot of [I think newer ar...

alright. Travis is in the booth tonight at the Century in Seattle, I'm pretty sure he has some Johnny Hodges in his collection; I'll have to make a request.

... In fact part of his 'job' at Warner and RCA (and even Columbia) was to "expand" their catalogs. As another example, in many conversations, my dad has complained about Norman Granz "releasing anything" just because he had recorded it -that doesn't sound like a budget consciou...

Y'all have trust issues. ;) ................. Jumpin' is a great example. The intro captures the simplicity of the song, the excitement, the 'get up out of your seat'-ness. yes, it's a great song. It's perfect. Especially the classic Basie version. That is why I didn't feel the need to use an emoti...
