I've seen a different version of Stage 1: Show up with a CD you've made of your own favourite tracks... press play... go dance. I've seen that as a retirement stage. Someone who is the only person in a scene with the tunes, does not really want to DJ anymore, but there is no one else ready to take ...

Stage: screw the crowd DJ plays whatever the hell he wants to hear and doesn't care if anyone is dancing or not. Stage: stuck on sameness DJ doesn't buy enough stuff or listen to enough stuff he owns and keeps playing the same songs over and over. Stage: Big head Becasue a few people constantly comp...

So I'm DJing Saturday night in Chicago at a brand new gig. Right at opening at 9 PM about 15 Lindy Hoppers show up. About 1/3 are notorious slow dancers, 2 of them like great jazz music but from my experience dance at all tempos and the others I don't know what they like to dance too. So I do my nor...

So here is my valetines love story, played to a crowd that is 85% Groove Lindy Hoppers who rarely dance over 160 BPM. I also played almost all vocals which is normally I play less then 50% songs with vocals. In fact occasionally I get requests if I could play something with words. Fine Brown Frame-B...

Playlist with a Valentine's theme
So what's your playlist if you were asked to DJ a valentine theme for Lindy Hoppers? I'm facing that tonight.

Play to someone?
Do you change what you play when certain people walk into the room? I do, there are a few people who I know love traditional stuff, so if they come to an event I start playing traditional jazz. There is a certain DJ in Chicago who made the comment on Windyhop that he never plays big band, and anyone...

Sweet Georgia Brown
Does anyone play this song? I'm curious because the past year or so it has grown into one of my favorites. I often use the Earl Hines version from 1936 as the first song of a big band set. Because of it's familiarity everyone always gets up and dances to it. But sometimes I will use other more moder...

I don't agree with your view that Boogie Woogie satisfies Lindy Hoppers. I think it can be mixed in as a good mix for variety reasons, but, the places i am familar with there is a clear litening of the dance floor when Boogie Woogie is played. I think this is because most Lindy hoppers either don't ...
