Haven't seen Jonas on here for a while. Still here. Just lurking. Love reading all the stuff you guys write. My new law clerk job just steals so much of my time. The rest of the time I currently reserve for dj'ing, dancing and teaching dance before writing long and emotional posts about the music I...

Sounds like the Peter Ecklund version from 1994 that you'll find on "Ecklund at Elkhart".

I got a dozen great Fletcher Henderson tracks off of "Live at the Grand Terrace, Chicago, 1938". I never heard them before, but after a few seconds of previewing I downloaded them without blinking. They swing just right!

Well, I think Nathan and I check the new stuff out the same way :) Come to think of it, can there many other ways? I tend to click on "View All Albums" in the Jazz section, and then sort by "Most Recent Additions". Doing that once a week or so makes sure I don't have to wade thro...

They just added a bunch of great albums from French labels EPM and Frémeaux & Associés over at eMusic Europe. I guess it's stuff most of you guys already have in your stash, like Lester Young, Fats Waller, Django Reinhardt etc, but there's gotta be a track here and there that you've never come a...

Ballin' the Jack; South Side Jazz Serenaders; 2006; Livin' High [Stomp Off 1420] If you, like me, love bands like the Washboard Rhythm Kings and the Georgia Washboard Stompers, you should get the whole album, because the South Side Jazz Serenaders, recorded here in 2006, sound like a Hi-Fi version o...

Oh, and today they added a whole bunch of CD's from HEP, all across the range, their Metronome Series (live recordings and transcriptions, mostly from the 40's), 1000 Series (mostly 30's-40's) and 2000 series (mostly contemporary, not that much interesting unfortunately)... Some of the more known wi...

One of my new favourites is Candy Johnson (an artist hitherto unknown to me!) and his CD 'Candy's Mood' in the Black & Blue Sessions series. The tune 'Freight Train', which sounds like it was built on Night Train, which I guess in turn was built on Happy Go Lucky Local, is downtempo, but full of...

eMusic Europe just added a whole bunch of the great Black & Blue Sessions CD's with music recorded in the 70's and 80's. You might have heard of "Confessin' the Blues" (Jay McShann), "Slam Bam" (Slam Stewart), "Yes Indeed!" (Sy Oliver), but there are many others to....

Could you recommend any of them for Swing dancing? Sure... all of them. Thanks for the advice guys. So, if I don't have the money to buy all fifteen at once, what would be the one or two best CD's to start with do you reckon, if I'm leaning towards his Swing Era stuff rather than the Traditional Ja...

I see on their website that the only CD, "And the Angels Swing", unfortunately is sold out. However, Hal Smith seems to have been recording quite a lot with other bands of his own, like "The Roadrunners" and "The Rhythmakers". Searching for 'Hal Smith' on www.worldsreco...
