my favourite cd right now is louis armstrong's "mack the knife" , live from newport, 1957. i think it's been mentioned here before. it has the most wonderful version of "now you has jazz". yes, it may just have edged "revolver" out of the top spot of Best Albums Evvvvva...

yes, reading archives again. for those who may visit holland: i love "concerto". i'm also a big fan of "de plaatboef" in utrecht (on the oude gracht -- it's across the canal and a few blocks down from "blunder" (the comics store) and "de jazz winkel", which is...

i just want to say that the music that sunday night was "omg so like totally awesome good, you know?". i was particularly fond of the discovery (well, for me a discovery -- i guess others already knew) that you can lindy to "twistin' the night away". and someone played "pain...

buy.com has proper box sets for $16.98 each now. they don't have everything in stock, so check "will ship in" times carefully if you're in a rush. shipping free if you order over $25. add tax in cali.

i spent a good while comparing bmg and yourmusic.com prices and catalogues today. findings below. catalogues: i could not find a single disc i wanted on either which the other did not carry. (edit: o.k., yourmusic doesn't have the beatles catalogue, for instance. bmg has some full-price discs that i...

I find it aggravating that a lot of players don't recognize AAC, however-- which is what you have to rip to using itunes.
um, no, that's not true. itunes can rip to mp3, wav, and aiff, too. preferences -> importing.

complete norman granz jam sessions?

has anyone had a listen to the complete norman granz jam sessions? i realise they're useless for dj'ing, what with the tracks all being 15 minutes long, but still: only $25 from bmg.

and back to drooling over the complete jatp set i go.

FWIW, when I got my new computer, I copied my old itunes folder off of my hard drive, and just replaced the itunes folder on the new computer with the old one. It worked brilliantly. I don't know why you couldn't use this as a backup. Copy your itunes folder on to external hard drive, and in case o...

excellent question...i don't have time to experiment more now (leaving for europe in two days...llx, here i come!), but my gut instinct is this: when you start up itunes with the old idl file and the new library which you just _copied_ from the ipod, then it will complain about all the songs not act...

the short answer to your question, as mentioned before: no, this will not work. you have to back up the binary database separately. the ipod will not save your ratings. the long answer below: i experimented a little with my itunes library at work, on a windows box. 1) the database on windows is not ...

in particular: all song specific data (artist, year, bpm, comments, etc.) are stored both in id3 tags and in a flat database, while all subjective (user specific) data (star rating, last played time, play count) are stored in a flat database only. if you want to back the latter stuff up, you need to...
