Show me a "Lindy Hopper" who prefers a DJ and I'll show you a bad dancer. you're cute when you lash out. In my opinion, the heart of lindy hop is improvisation and when you dance to the same canned music week after week, it really affects that aspect of one's dancing. How many times have ...

I think someone posted a similar opinion on this board. i believe that was me. and cafesavoy is right on. of course it's true that a dj can be more varied, and of course it's a matter of taste whether that makes up for the mystical vibe of liveness. i can't help it that you all are wrong. ;o) there...

re: brian's re-import loses bpm problem: i think that's an itunes bug. i've been too lazy to file it with apple, though, so i don't know what the official word on it is.

i think if you re-import as mp3, you'll keep the bpm. if you re-import as alac, you'll lose it. wacky.

that's an intimidatingly long thread. :o) fwiw, the few times i've dj'ed recently i've done it from itunes on my powerbook. i make a shortlist of about twice the length of my total sets and keep that playlist's window open next to a "live" playlist window. if your shortlist is really long,...

oh lord. why do you want to do this? it's not like the amp in a tube radio is gonna be anything great. is it just because the case looks cool? mr. jalopy has converted an old radio/record player into an itunes server . he gutted the thing and built it back up with modern bits, including an lcd and m...

a five second trip to blacktree.com revealed there is a 1.0.2.
http://blacktree.com/apps/detail-old.html

use the download link on that page (to a 1.0.2 zip archive), not the one on the bpm inspector info page -- that still links to a 1.0.1 dmg, it looks like.

Re: Hi, My Name is Gary...

The swing scene in Athens, GA is really high-energy and the DJ would be lynched if they played more than 1-2 old-style swing songs/night. those two phrases are not causally connected. old != low energy new != high energy Although the emphasis is east coast, you can do Lindy and Bal to an _amazing_ ...

there are some 50's things which work. give "ina mina dika" by kishore kumar a try. the asha bhosle one is easier to find (on, for instance, the rough guide to asha bhosle), but is hard to dance to, i believe (no speakers here, so i can't check the amazon sample to make sure).

huey wrote: Agreed. A 6/8 time signature, a jazz melody and a steady beat are not enough.
unless you want to waltz. :o)

(i think you meant 4/4 (or 2/4, or 2/2, or...ya know). well, probably you meant "six or eight beat patterns" -- but that ain't the same as a time signature.)

nope. :o)

though when you think about it, three cd's did seem a bit on the skimpy end for complete. the box still proudly claims it is. stupid box.

definitive records have been discussed a few times. in particular, check the "complete basie -- how to get it" thread in this forum. one of the last posts in that thread is a summary by kitkat, and it mentions overlap between the complete columbia discs and the "america's number 1 ban...

the imic is, in fact, an external sound device, like the creative ones mentioned above, or the turtle beach one reuben got. it's come up in this very thread before. i believe brian (bob the builder) had one and didn't like it much because of low output levels, but i'm too lazy to go back and find ou...
