Re: What was your worst djing experience?

I've been doing the radio gig for a decade now and I *still* forget to turn on the aux input sometimes. Or I'll have it on but forget to bring up the slider.

Though I approve of the sentiment, I must point out that you wanted "Hear, hear!".

Re: Portable PA systems

At the Canadian Costco... http://www.costco.ca/Edison-Professional-M2000-Bluetooth-Speaker-.product.100086616.html Can't find any reviews of this thing online, nor much else on the brand for that matter. Probably some cheap Chinese import... but geez, $300 including a stand and all the cables? I won...

Re: Winamp users: winamp is no more

Wow, I remember when winamp used to be *the* free player back in the day. Like an old giant laying down to rest now.

Re: Duke Ellington - It Don't Mean a Thing - live 4-28-45

I even tried capturing the flash file and checked my cache, but nada. Maybe someone more technologically inclined can help. Perhaps set your soundcard to capture the output directly (how that's done exactly I'm not too sure... I don't know if you can loop the output directly to a microphone input......

Re: Duke Ellington - It Don't Mean a Thing - live 4-28-45

I poked around briefly on those two pages but couldn't find any downloadable files for the music unfortunately. I think both are using flash player that links to somewhere external that I can't see :(

So one of the new girls (1st or 2nd year uni, I dunno they all look like kids these days) runs up to me the other day with her ipod and one half of her earbuds... her: oh my god, you have to hear this song! me: *hesitantly takes earbud* her: it's this new style of music, they call it electroswing! m...

"The Greatest Jazz Films Ever" - youtube

I came across this on another forum and figured I'd share it here. It's a solid two hours... part 1: http://youtu.be/HZJx33i63LM part 2: http://youtu.be/1wN4ca7gr1E Here's a copied blurb for part 2. I don't have one for part 1... I'm a subscriber to "Jazz on the Tube" and I confess that I ...

I actually played that once at the end of the night as a "get out, we're closing down" song... and it packed the dance floor

While not on the cloud, something like this looks interesting... http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2416607,00.asp

Makes for more mobile DJ'ing with a tablet/phone.

Forget 80's, most of the kids in the scene here are 90's babies... nevermind the Duke, they've never even heard of Stevie Wonder. I think the only "modern covers" that might fit in their timeline is the electroswing stuff these days. Everything else is old enough that you might as well ski...

It's an interesting little device. Not the first of it's kind, but it has a nice form factor to it. I don't see it being all that useful in a regular DJ setup where you've likely got more substantive gear to plug into, but maybe for someone hauling around a portable PA it would make for a dandy auxi...
