hey I didn't mention any names, and I said they are in fact good DJ's... Sorry, I should have included the whole quote to which I was referring: It's no surprise that a celebration of the Savoy Ballroom would bore you [Greg], which makes it a surprise you'd be included in a this particular "ba...

Yes, I am surprised at the selection of DJ's as much as most dancers are. Not that they are not good, because they are good, But for a normal swing night. I would think for this event to use people who have a passion towards this regions music and history. I personally think the list of DJs are kic...

shouldn't that be the focus of this event... Harlem Jazz? Just a reminder...this is the Harlem Jazz Dance Festival, an event recognizing Harlem's gift of Lindy Hop (as well as Tap, Hip Hop, Salsa, etc...), celebrating both the past and present. The dance has come a long way between its inception an...

Let me take this opportunity to remind you that I have added a Links section designed for listing websites (see link to this at the top of every page), and there is a section specifically for music sources: Links: Music Sources The categories are flexible, so when there is a need for a new category ...

It's too bad that so many of you seem to get tired of great songs so quickly. If a song is great, it is very unlikely that I am ever going to get tired of it (and yes, I listen to music pretty much all the time). As time passes, I find I have an ever-expanding collection of great familiar songs (gre...

I'm in. Looking forward to the entire wonderful weekend of HJDF! Battling and smack-talking aren't really my specialties (I'm more about feel-good group hugs), but I guess I'm in there to round out the vegan contingent (you know how Janice loves the vegans). ;)

Peter, I normally don't get into discussions like this, but I wanted to share a perspective that seems to just be getting some light shed on it now. Just as you've intensely studied the roots of our dance's history in the 30s/40s by talking with and understanding dancers who were around then, it's a...

We are part of a pretty awesome scene when these are the songs the people complain about being overplayed. I love DJing, listening to and dancing to pretty much all of the songs that have been listed so far. There is most definitely a reason these songs get played so often - they kick ass! Keep more...

Thanks Ron. I know Reuben and I among others had been thinking for a while about making the move to a web-based discussion board like this, and we're so glad that the move has been a success. I only expect the board to grow and expand and get even better with time. There are too many people to thank...

The only times I've ever been asked to be recorded have been at a venue where the owner is a good close friend of mine who only has the best intentions of keeping a personal snapshot of what has happened in his club and of developing a better understanding of what works and doesn't work musically. I...

It's not really an essential piece of information that needs to be next to each post. I thought the user's username, avatar, real name and location were the important ones. You can still view number of posts, joined date, etc... in each user's profile.

One night, same DJ, same version. Not very far apart, perhaps within about 1 1/2 hours of each other - I know that can be very subjective, but it annoyed me, and I think it annoyed one of my friends. I can only imagine that that was either an accident ("I forgot I'd already played that earlier...

I highly recommend the album "Strictly Jive". Andy Reid recommended this one to me a while ago, and I can't say enough positive things about it. There are so many great songs on this album, and I play songs from it pretty much every time I DJ. http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/dre200...

Ron, that version of "Jack The Bear" is by the Duke Ellington Orchestra and would be found on the album "Big Band Jazz & Blues": http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drd000/d053/d0538774wv9.jpg Sadly, the liner notes are non-existent, so I have no information about the ban...
