It sounds very similar to the format at Lindy Summit, which seemed to work well. How was it received by the dancers? Who were the DJs that competed? If I remember, the DJs were Giselle, Tonya, me, Justin, Jenn, and I'm blanking on the others. The audience seemed to enjoy it, and the only thing abou...

NOTE TO SELF:

DO NOT ACCIDENTALLY THROW AWAY YOUR UN-BACKED UP EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE THAT HAS YOUR ENTIRE MUSIC COLLECTION ON IT.

Sometimes they can be awesome. I recently DJd with JC who has a pretty different style of DJing than me. We both played a lot of stuff that we wouldn't normally have played, and it ended up being a great night. We received dozens of comments about how much people enjoyed the music, which usually doe...

Also, a lot of the places that do feature good music don't feature good dance floors. Or any dance floor, for that matter.

I work with a local jazz singer at the only weekly venue in our city to feature live music for dancers. It sure sucks when only 25 people show up (which happened last night) but on the nights when you get a good crowd, it's awesome.

I could play that instrument you used to play in elementary school that's just two sticks that you hit together.

I was watching the Ken Burns jazz thing and the narrator said that when Sidney Bechet's New Orleans Feetwarmers played at the Savoy, attendance was low because "the lindy hoppers could not dance to his music."

Any thoughts on this by anybody?

Although it's admirable to want live music over DJ'd music, I think such a goal is silly to pursue in our day and age. I would much rather listen to Count Basie and Duke Ellington on a record than the local blues or jump swing band. There aren't enough good bands in existence to have live music all ...

It is just that if you post certain statements (like, I love the way Lou Rawls swings or I loved lindyhopping to Al Green last night at the 9:20 Special), you will get a quick response from any one of 7 or 8 DJs ridiculing or correcting you. You can bank on it. You can also bank on a different grou...
