Ray Anthony played trumpet in the Glenn Miller civilian band and George Williams did a number of arrangements for the Glenn Miller civilian band.

Mega-derivAtive number- It starts off kind of like THE MOLE, moves into another familiar riff, then moves into a riff from THE COUNT. Good stuff.

Williams had his own double CD of swing era stuff when I checked about a year ago.

Any version of Old Man Mose that I've found. Ha! You have got to hear the notorious 1938 Eddy Duchin recording of that song. It's a pretty jumpy arrangement for his band which usually played 'society' type music. But on this recording not only is he swinging, but his female vocalist is singing the ...

There is a slightly later Dorsey transcription from 1944 (A studio recording) where he plays it at a much faster tempo than the 1942 Victor recording. The 2nd one is too fast and it loses it punch and sounds like 'cartoon music'.

There was a soundtrack issued and reissued over the years. Good music and always nice to see Ellington on screen...Armstrong, too. I have not seen the film in years, buit it didn't make a big impression on me when I did. Prolly worth a second viewing.

The King Sisters with Alvino Rey's orchestra did a very jivey version of "SCICTTown" in 1941. Is it out anywhere? I heard an early Ella 1940s Xmas side of the radio yesterday... "Santa Claus Got Stuck In My Chimney" which wasn't too bad for a comedy novelty. There was a vocal gro...
