I haven't watched the exact DVD you are speaking of, but being a big collector of jazz and swing videos, I'm certain it was good. I started a thread a few weeks ago regarding the label I think the video you are refering was released under: Storyville Label I have since bought about 3 of these DVDs a...

Harry "Sweets" Edison

Hi, I briefly looked for a topic for Sweets, but couldn't find one. He has been one of my favorite swing players and this past week I bought the following CD: Harry Sweets Edison Sweets http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0007KVAJS.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg This is a GREAT recording for both listening and ...

Storyville Label

Hi all, This weekend I visited Joseph Beth Book stores and came across some jazz videos. Along with being a jazz music lover, I've been collecting jazz videos for several years and had not discovered this label for videos. http://www.storyville-records.com/default.html They have a whole series of DV...

This is a dynamite CD.

Ziggy Elman does some amazing work on this. I LOVE the version of Sing, Sing, Sing. THe horn playing by Ziggy makes me wish he had done more work on his own.

I'm a bit surprised the Louis Armstrong set hasn't been mentioned. For listening, this is a MUST have set for the Armstrong fans. For dancing I would guess probably 1/3 to 1/2 of the set would be good for that. The Lionel Hampton set is excellent for LOTS of dance stuff and listening. The Sidney Bec...

No question that the live version on Woody Herman 1981 CD is my favorite. Maybe not as much for the dancers. This thing just cooks and the trumpets just SCREAM!!! I saw this exact band about 1 week before this LP was recorded. Just a great group: Live at the Concord Jazz Festival - Woody Herman Sorr...

Another one that I heard this morning on the radio - Art Van Damme. A wonderful accordian player from the 50s and 60s. Has a very distinctive 'polite' style.

How many of you dance to Art Van Damme?

Re: Ben Webster

Ben Webster - The Big Tenor (on Emarcy) Released in 1954, not much data for it on AMG. Sounds like a complilation due to the variety of tracks. I'll try to remember to post the discography when I get home. I think this session had Maynard Ferguson on it. At least one of the tracks is on a compilati...

Ok I watched the first 50 mins of this DVD on Saturday. The show was done for Brazilian TV in the early 1960s. The sound quality is actually very good considering the source material. It is a full big band on all of the songs. Ray sounds fantastic. It is all black and white video, but this must have...
