Pretty much any bop version of Cherokee is going to be blazing. There is a 410 bpm version on Karrin Allyson's "Collage" CD. Swing versions, I dunno.
He said he loved dancing to it but wished it were faster. 410 might be a little much though. :D

Danget! I knew it was a basie track, I just couldn't remember the name. Thanks.

Panassie Stomp is definately one of my fav fast songs. I heard a song this last weekend at showdown a couple times and it's so familiar but I just can't put my finger on it. The Seattle team did a demo to it (they also did it at camp hollywood) and I think I heard it in the liberation prelims. Anybo...

I personally like the contrast. I like it when things change around a little. Not every song, but enough that it doesn't seem so stagnant in the feel of the night. I like to dance to djs like that and I like to dj it that way as well. I like not knowing what style or tempo is coming next. But I try ...

The djs here are very limited in their music selection. They usually have about 20-50 cds and about half of them are neo. I don't think they have enough of one artist to do a half an hour :D . A big pet peeve of mine is that nobody really listens to the music in our scene. It's just a beat to dance ...

We might be doing a dj battle sometime soon and I had a few questions. We probably will only have 2 djs battle (because we have very few djs), I was thinking maybe giving each of them a 30-45 minute set. How do you determine who won? Thoughts?

Speaking of Sidney Bechet, I only have one or two of his albums but would like to get into some more. Does anybody have any favorites of his that are a must have?

That is hilarious. I must say I am bummed out that djs are moving away from vinyl. There's some awesome stuff you can do with vinyl that you can't with a cd player (although even that is changing). Plus it makes collecting a little more challenging than just downloading a song.

I agree with the fact that it's okay from time to time to play some really horrible requests. I didn't know anything about good music when I started and I loved it when that stuff came on. But as I stuck around and gradually listened to the other music being played, I got more interested and drawn i...

Our scene is kind of holding right now but most of us feel it's at a breaking point. Either it's going to expand or just fizzle out. A bunch of us started around the same time and stuck around a while but now most of them don't come out that often and we don't really have a new generation to fill it...

I like dancing to violin occasionally. It's good to change things up occasionally. Don't really have any favorites though. :)
