I don't abhor neo - swing, I guess it simply doesn't resonate with me, much. A matter of taste, I suppose. I grew up listening to big band (Dad's records), and he was never a Sinatra fan, so I always did miss the boat on the jump-blues/Vegas thang. So in that way I never had anything in common with ...

I think we need to differentiate between Collegiate Shag and Beach Shag.

Radically different dances with the same (last) name.

Collegiate shag music dates from the late 30s to the early 40s; swing, generally.

Actually Eddie Lang died from a botched tonsilectomy. Also, Charlie Christian died from TB which reportedly took a turn for the worse after some friends brought him some "comfort" from a lady friend. hmmmm... sure enough; I was thinking of somebody else. What I did recall was that he only...

A number of artists did "Big Band In Hi-Fi" recordings in the 1950s - Tommy Dorsey, for one. So far as I can recall, they are only available on 33 RPM. A number of bands recorded on 33 RPM in the late 50s, and they made some fine recordings. Ellington, Basie, Goodman and others. If you can...

I'm going for the America's # 1 Band Box Set. It seems to complement my Complete Decca Recordings in the best possible way.

Thanks for the input, gang.

I'm not sure how much overlap there is with the 40's Columbia recordings. Perhaps someone will remember if we have discussed that before. There was also a discussion somewhere else on the board contrasting the 30's Definitive recordings with the Complete Decca set. I think most thought they were eq...

Definitive Records? Anybody familiar with this release?

Hey, gang. I need to upgrade my Count Basie. I really need something complete- with the increasing rarity of my beloved CLC Classics cds this label seems to have that, but I have never seen it before now. Does anyone have anything by this label? How is the remastering and sound quality? Thanks for a...

Earn a living from this? Not a chance. If I sat down and thought about it, I would say that this hobby has cost me hundreds, maybe thousands of $$ by now. I dj two hrs. a week on my radio show and on average two gigs a month. The radio gig doesn't pay at all, but I am not bitching, believe me. The r...

You can catch it on the 'net at www.citr.ca (LISTEN LIVE link)....of course.
