That said, a 5" speaker at head height is not able to couple to the ground at all...and it likely 180deg out of phase at between 50Hz & 60Hz. That is not good for lows. Huh? How can the out put of a single speaker be out of phase let alone out of phase at particular frequencies? What do yo...

The woofer will break in with use because the web that supports the cone will be flexed and worked through a range of motion. This allows for more woofer movement with the same input energy. That is why the woofer gets louder with use.

My only complaint is they are a little weak in the lows. I'm not sure if this is by design or if the cones are a little stiff because it's new. There is only one 5" speaker rather than a woofer and tweeter like the larger ones. The cones will loosen up with use. It takes some time for a new co...

Depends on where how the program starts up. 1) Control Panel -> Adminstrative Tools -> Services. Right click on the offending service, change the Startup Type to "Manual." Windows might hide the "Services" menu in a different location on your version...but google can help you fin...

I will add that laptop power supplies are notoriously noisy in an audio environment. The solution is to replace the power supply. That is probably not happening in this case, since pulling the battery made the noise go away. You should consider replacing the battery. But if the noise is coming from...

I always get a hum when I connect my laptop to speakers. The intensity varies from place to place, though it doesn't seem to matter if the speakers are on the same outlet as the computer (although in the instances I've tried different outlets, they were on the same wall, so likely the same circuit)...

Can anyone give me updated recommendations on this? (four years later) I want to get two external hard drives: one for all my music (and to DJ from), and one to back up all my personal crap (read: dissertation). How much personal crap do you have? USB thumb drives come in 8GB sizes now. I just boug...

Re: How to get glue off a CD

The condition given by the seller was "used - like new", so imagine my disappointment when I find that there is a big chunk of glue right across the underside of the disc! Which side? The "top (i.e. label side)" or the "bottom (i.e. shiny side)?" The top of a CD is a v...

First you need to decide what program you want to use to DJ...then pick the OS and hardware.

You probably have a check in the works; they just have not told you. +1 If you have not sent them an invoice, do that. Often it takes an invoice to "trigger" payment with the government. It's not about stiffing you - but without a paper trail, no $$$ will be sent out. Most gov't contracts...

No offense taken, I prefer a nice frank discussion. I do want to nit pick a few points in your reply. Excellent. And a few nits coming back at you... First, I was careful to choose the word intuition rather than instinct, going with the Merriam Webster definition: "2. c. the power or faculty o...

I use a lot of intuition when I DJ. Really, if the skills of a good DJ could be distilled into a few heuristics based on empirical data, we could probably be replaced with a smarter version of party shuffle. I mean no dis-respect or personal affront to anyone. And I am not singling out TTDave. I ag...

I think that by grouping songs together by 'feel' in addition to tempo, it should be possible to manage a set more effectively. Tempo is concrete and unchanging. Once I have the tempo, that's the tempo. "Feel" is subjective. My mood, my energy level, my biases, my recent listening, my rec...
