I don't know about an exchange making an entire scene a better group of dancers, but it's definately a great boost to individual dancers. How often do you get that much practice in that little time? I know I went from barely-competent to pretty solid in the course of a couple of exchanges, and I've ...

Gonna go with a higher capacity next year?

I've been hearing horror stories of people who travelled across the country thinking they could get tickets at the door and then got stuck outside. :(

Everything else I heard was great though, wishing I'd have gone. :/

I like Peggy Lee better than Elvis or Madonna :)

I don't have the Barbara Morrison version though, I"ll have to go check it out.

My annoyance with Winamp is that I can't have one library and two winamps open. Itunes seems to be the "best" MP3 management software that lets the user drag straight from their library to any other program, a function I'd kill for with anything else. In a perfect world media monkey would ...

did you get the two versions of winamp to share one library? or do you ahve two libraries open too? I'd love to do that, but using two libraries just drives me nuts. I want to be able to drag from my library to either player, so I don't have to find songs twice, but so far I haven't been able to set...

And if you're not rich, just buy a 140 dollar 160 gig external hard drive and a 10 dollar power strip. :)

I'd love to carry around a little less weight, but it's not worth an extra million dollars to lose 4 square inches and half a pound. :)

I've been using Traktor DJ studio and KIND of liking it. None of the DJ software I've found has a good MP3 tag editor/sorter for my tastes. The one thing I don't like about Traktor was that you can't set up multiple sound cards, kind of annoyed me. I think you can set up a 5.1 sound card as a monito...

I'm writing before reading the other responses, so I can compare my thoughts with the greats without being prejudiced. :) 1. Not into at all. 2. Okay, but kind of repetitive, might make an okay Bal. 3. This is kind of a wierd song. The beat is pretty fast (200ish) but the feeling is much slower. I t...

I also think that a great DJ does his or her best, whether it is a paid gig or not. If I thought that a DJ tried harder if you paid him more, I would not want him or her near the DJ booth. The problem with this is that if (pretty much) anyone gets anything for doing something, they try harder. It j...

Feel free to shoot me down, because this theory is really tenuous, but the few times i've voiced it around here it's at least gotten a few nods, but I'm very curious to hear what the DJ's on the board think: I've been wondering lately if a kind of musical drift away from even semi-neo swing bands is...

I'm a bit dismayed because Jellyroll took Casey's place in the movie version of "Swing" due out this summer. I'm from Portland, so I have to like Casey (and probably would if I were from elsewhere, but I'm new, so we'll see where my tastes go...) but I was very unimpressed with the Demos f...

. Kalman is pretty much right that it will not succeed. The non-ballroom people don't like the ballroom/latin stuff and the ballroom people don't dig a whole night of swing. Actually this weekly events been going on for years. Corvallis is a pretty small dance community, so everyone does pretty muc...

My collection started as a largely (I don't want to say "pirated" because I didn't go looking for stuff, it more like a few dozen burned CD's people tossed me with "You'll like track 12 on this" comments) ...found, let's say, music. So I ended up with a few hundred songs, a few o...

Help from anyone at the PDX exchange?

During the Saturday late night a gentleman from Chicago played the middle set, I was wondering if he posts here or if any of ya'all have contact information for him? Towards the end of his set he played this really cool (grrr...brain fart, can't think of the word, like...gospel, but not gospel, like...

I have 7 Ella CD's I just bought for 25 bucks the other day :) Hey, I'm new! On a related topic, how did most of you go about buying your CDs at the beginning? I see a lot of Ella/Basie/Ellington stuff out there that I'd happily snatch up, but I'm trying to maximize my mix now, figure I can obsess o...
