Re: 20's music - lindy, not charleston

But lindy wouldn't have evolved then if there weren't music being produced that made it "feel right." I'm sure Peter could answer this more definitively, but I somehow doubt that people where thinking "let's develop a new dance that 'feels right.'" They were just trying to come ...

20's music - lindy, not charleston

Lindy evolved some time in the 20's, it seems...and there must have been some new path taken in music that made the dance evolve from Charleston to breakaway to what we know now. But when I go to the library and go to record stores and hunt down old albums from the 20's, all I can find that swings i...

Well, the CD person was back at the market today; the old stuff I saw turned out to not be nearly as good as I'd hoped. Ballads, cutesy kinds of movie songs, etc. But I did end up buying one CD, and I even got a half-euro discount on it. Ray Ventura & Ses Collegiens...no album title, really, but...

Foreign-language swing

French, in particular. I've finally gotten to take up DJing here, but one complaint I've received from the French is that I don't have anything in their language. The guy who runs swing has a few tracks, but a lot of it is stuff like translations of "Hello Dolly" by Petula Clark. Albums I ...

Help needed: choosing equipment

*steps quietly into forum, looking around, a bit intimidated* I've always posted my music questions on Yehoodi, but this one is just a little too technical, so I hope you all won't mind a DJing question here from someone who hasn't actually gotten to try her hand at DJing yet. My school's swing club...
