Re: Calming a crazy floor

A few dances I go to are held in small bars and attract a majority of inexperienced partner dancers. The resulting dance floor is often crazy with drinks everywhere and kicks and elbows. It's frustrating for more experienced dancers, who can't dance without being kicked. I wonder if a DJ can contro...

you're referring to the song that starts out "My Mama done told me" ? I like the blues arrangements better, my all time fave is Louis Armstrong with Oscar Peterson. I have one featuring Hot Lips Page which I like - perhaps that is the Harry James one? I forget which big band he played with.

partly do to a bunch of new dancers who need to learn how to shim sham - lindy hop 101 . Oops - almost missed this - what is ' shim sham - lindy hop 101 ' :?: I was attempting to say that the Shim Sham, especially done with Frankie, or to the song Frankie prefers, is a required element of a Lindy H...

o.k., no one else seems to hate tapping the space bar, so i'll give these bpm widgets another go. thanks. you can always get some good DJ software - JRiver Media Center analyzes the BPM for you when you rip the CD; there is a bug in it so that most songs over 150 bpm are listed at half tempo, but t...

Re: Educating about swing rhythms and schemes?

Do you have any: - recommendations for international teachers that are experts on that, whom we could ask to do a class when they are around In addition to those recommended, you might also ask Solomon Douglas who is a musician, DJ, and dancer. I don't know how much he is in Europe, but you could t...

Re: Your local Lindy Hop scene - Uses real Swing music or ot

And we had a DJ battle a month or so ago, Falty won, playing nothing but music recorded after 1980. And it all swung hard. So it doesn't have to be from the 30's or 40's to swing. So if he didn't play Swing, what did he play? the two that I remember that I knew were the New Orleans Jazz Vipers vers...

Re: Your local Lindy Hop scene - Uses real Swing music or ot

As for Seattle and swing music, I'd say things are pretty swingin' up here. Most dances have music from the 30s and 40s, with certain DJs throwing in more 20s and 50s than others. There is also plenty of recordings from the 80s to the present (trad jazz and swing) being played as well. Adding a cou...

73.8% real Swing  Haha. You're sure? Well no one would be sure until you visited and made your personal assessment of the situation and self certified it of course. given that I certify Trev's statement and claim the rest of the 26.2% is comprised of Wynonie Harris. lol. Sincerely though the ...

Re: Favourite recording of ... He Ain't Got Rhythm?

But I find this song depressing, and it fails because the tune is not exciting and the words are about a sad lonely man who can't dance :( - really you find the tune not exciting? I love how Jimmy Rushing sings "When he found the fourth dimension". The lyrics to this song always cracked m...
