Swing DJ’s role (if any) in promoting live Jazz.

Swing DJ’s role (if any) in promoting live Jazz. In many local scenes over the past few years, I’ve seen a huge increase in role put on DJed social events, to an extent where in some scenes the amount dancers attending live jazz gigs is very low in comparison to the number of dancers in the scene. N...

So I'm going to have to go the total other way.
Back to 1931 (13 Sept.) and the Cab Calloway orchestra.
It's amazing the recording of Bugle Call Rag go back to 1916.
So it makes it a very traditional jazz song.

Ken 'Snakehips' Johnson & His West Indian Dance Band 27 Feb 1940 - blows them all away. Johnson was such a amazing arranger. If he dadn't been killed a few months later in a bombingrade he would have gone on to be one of the best big band leaders out side the US. Teddy Stauffer also has a very n...

It's amazing how many put Miller down in the Lindy scene.
Which is a pitty as there is a lot of interesting sides of Glenn Miller.

Don Redman also recorded a nice one that year.

Oooh, I second "Loose Like a Goose", love that song. I was listening to that recording and I was thinking. I know that song as something else. It's a tiny varieation on House of David Blues. :D Some of Motens recordings are a little difficult to re-create as some have a Piano Accordion or...

The Numark mixer I've been using for a little over a year has two USB connections so people can plug up to two laptops in and instantly have second 24 bit sound cards for free. I always get crystal clear sound and it's eliminated a lot of problems I've had with ground loops and loose connections. P...

From reading some of the posts i would conclude.

They are going to lousy festivals
and / or
They are seeing lousy bands at these events.

It makes me appreciate the high standard of Trad. jazz we have here in Melbourne.

Persionally I see everything as a shortlist, even if that list is over 1000 songs. To me a short list is a smaller version of your entire collection in some form. You are only "not" chosing from a shorlist if you are going down through ever song in your entire collection. How many people d...

I do find it odd that I very rarely hear about any of these I would consider being big people in the US Trad Jazz scene not playing at any Lindy hop events. Who is big in the US 'trad Jazz' scene? And 'big' is relative Well I would start with some of the names I mentioned above. Most Lindy dance pr...
