I just said that cause what you posted to me read degrogatory. I understand you comparison to grapes, But cultures tend to deserve a little more respect then where your favorite drink comes from. I really enjoy dances that evolved from challenging one another. unlike Ballroom or west coast swing It...

I think the issue is that the-dance-many-people-are-doing-nowadays is not what they were doing back in the day and calling "Lindy Hop." Lindy Hop has evolved since then into something different. It's like Star Trek. Deep Space 9 and Voyager are two completely different shows. It would be w...

Incidentally, last night, when this Lindyhop DJ played Lindyhop music for Lindyhop dancers last night at our local Lindyhop venue in San Diego called The Firehouse, I played two Barbara Morrison songs and one Mora's song. The people Lindyhopping looked, to my poor uneducated, non-classic eyes, to b...

I think you have to cater to the audience most of the time. Otherwise, you won't be a DJ for long. Even playing unique stuff that the audience hasn't heard before is catering to them, as long as you are trying to keep them dancing and having fun. Of course, if you are in a situation where you are tr...

HAHAHA! Cool. That's what I've been trying to do lately in SD. It seems to be working, slowly, but surely.

The band was awesome, and anyone who doesn't agree with my opinion is a fool, and thus, probably not a "swing DJ." It's completely logical.

Or maybe the real issue is that I'm secretly jealous because I don't know how to do any of the modern African American Vernacular dances.

Damn my lack of creativity!

If you do not buy this CD when it comes out, I think you should question whether or not you are a "swing DJ."

well, I cannot make anyone enjoy something. But as someone who enjoy's an african american artform I find it Ironic to be negative about something that has evolved in the same manner as the one you enjoy. First off, it's not logical to say that I should enjoy something just because it evolved in th...

If Crip walking is any representative of the nature of current African American Vernacular dance, that's pretty sad. Of course, I don't know jack about what the new dances are. But I haven't seen very many lately that are as inspiring as lindy hop. Maybe I'll play some Busta Rhymes this weekend at C...

...Melissa doing it is having tons of DJs, each with a 1-hour set. I don't think that merits free entrance to the whole event. Then she'd have to let 20-25 people in for free. Obviously she should then account for the DJs in the budget as a cost. That way it doesn't look like a loss or shelling out...

When I started, I just organized all my CDs alphabetically. Now, I don't organize them at all. I pull out a CD, play it, and put the CD I just played in it's place. That way, the organization of my collection is constantly changing. This makes DJing very chaotic and and spontaneous. The good thing i...
