I would check it out.
I have an old vitaphone movie from the 1930s of an all kazoo band. It is pretty funny to watch and hear. For the life of me I can't recall the group.
Doo-wacka-doo-wacka-doo

The New York voices is a marvelous group to listen it. I wouldn't think much of them for dance related events, but I use them on the radio every now and then. They are even better live in performance. They have some ties in Cleveland and come through about once per year, so I've been fortunate to ex...

My ultimate goal is to get this database up and usable as a website, then convince this guy to join forces and import his superior data into my superior (and online ... his is lame CD-ROM only) database. Wishful thinking :) Mike, I own the Lord Discography and use it OFTEN. It isn't cheap, but has ...

I will listen to the song again and compare it with some verified Leon Thomas tracks and get a final answer. I think you're right. Check out the discographt for Leon at: http://www.jazzsupreme.com/leon.thomas/disc02.html It specially lists 'Nobody Knows When...' from Basie Picks the Winners recordi...

Interesting idea. I just did a quick check and was surprised to find I have around 35 CDs with Basie. For dancing the best in my collection is the marvelous 10 CD set from Past Perfect. I found this a half price books for around $20-$25. I would guess at least 50-75% of the tracks are good for swing...

If your looking for Basie in a small intimate setting, check out the video: http://www.cdconnection.com/covers/471629.jpg This is a 30 min tv broadcast from 1965 or so. Has Basie, Freddie Green, Bass and Drums. Great video to watch. I'm not sure much of it is dance music, but a few times Basie does ...

Greg, I have done a lot of concert archiving on Minidisc. First tip is don't use the mix from the mixer. It most likely will sound pretty bad. Unless you mic everything, drums, cymbals, piano, bass, etc.. the mix in the mixer will be incomplete. Plus you'll need top quality mics and a good mix perso...

Spring Related Theme
All of you have been a huge help in getting creative with ideas for radio shows. I really apprecaite your collective help. Here is a new one, I'm just thinking of trying to do a radio show with a theme related to spring. Any creative ideas on how to make this work? Obviously once you get past a few ...

i also have the LP -- with the blue cover, right? great set. I recall the reissue LP is a white with blue. Has artistic drawings of Bing and Louis on the cover. The reissue I seem to recall is on Capitol/EMI. I have never scene the original LP artwork. A friend told me he has the CD reissue and len...

The early Modern Jazz Quartet recordings will probably qualify too, after all, they are the definition of polite jazz. You bring up a very good point. The Modern Jazz Quartet was a style of chamber jazz. Very 'polite' and listenable. I'll re-listen, but I seem to recall the jazz is more based in 'b...

Thanks Ryan for the suggestion. The Harry James Cottontail is unreal. That DEFINATELY fits my idea. Also I just recalled Chick Webb had a small group that was very much in the Kirby style. I'll use some of that. Also some of the Nat Cole trio stuff would fit. Probably extended that to the modern Sop...
