I sort of graze through my cd's and remember what I have and get inspired by turning the pages. That's funny, unlike you I have no memory at all and I definitely graze just hoping that an album cover will remind me of something I like. That will be a major downside to DJing with a computer. Musicma...

Greg- What are examples of "Groove" bigger bands, vs groove? The Gene Harris is a good example both as well as later day Basie. Add Shirley Scott (Oliver Nelson is a badass arranger) and Ray Charles -which I think are slightly broader examples of big band groove- vs. Jumior Mance, Monty A...

Yeah, I hate one hour sets. I'm not carrying my CDs around the country to play for an hour...I'd much rather go, drink and dance.

I was remembering our conversation on getting paid in Austin, Greg, when I started this thread. I remember you talking about an exchange that you wouldn't go to because they didn't offer to pay... But I understand what you mean when you say if you really wanted to go, you'd go anyway. Do you find a...

As a patron of an exchange, I would rather have a more "exclusive" DJ lineup, so that I know I'm getting my money's worth while dancing. As a DJ, I would rather have "all comers." That way, I can DJ. Hahaha! That's great... I go either way...I can see both sides. I think ...

Yeah, I didn't realize that file management is a whole seperate issue since I use music match and that cam as a package. I really don't understand why all this stuff isn't integrated into a single inexpensive program withpout having to get a huge package like sound forge, or BPM. Laurie has itunes a...

I count the tempo that the teacher is teaching at and start about 5% faster. Then I play something a little slower and then go a little faster for a song or too. Then a little slower again to make sure the newbies aren't freaked out. So the first half-hour is for the newbies. After that I bring up t...

Managing files on your laptop...what do you use?

I downloaded a Nero demo and it doesn't seem to allow me to search for track names. This seems vital when you can't remember the mname of the band that does that lonesome version of 'Oh, lady be good' with the nice sax solo in the beginning ... ?-Smith incorporated??? With Musicmatch and Sonic Stage...

Hey, I just downloaded the Nero demo and I can't find a way to list my music library by song -only by artist. Is there a way to list by song title (so I can see how many versions of "Oh lady be good" I have for instance?)

Re: Laptop DJing

lesson here? Never use weird ass formats...for saving anything. you're right ...and I learned this lesson the hard way. 'Sonic stage' had a lot of cool features I really liked, so I got sucked in. I haven't tried Nero, but after reading so many positive posts about it here, I will. The literature I...

Re: Laptop DJing

It was between Toshiba and Sony after looking into it. Consumer reports put the Sony's on top with the normal consumer in mind, so thats what I went with. Sony GR series. I can't comment on the GR series, but after buying a Viao last Christmas, there is no way I'd buy another Sony computer. The bur...

Laptop DJing

I'm etting tired of ripping, burning, rearranging mixes, making mixes of music people like so I have it on hand and keeping seperate playlists. So I think I'll go with a laptop. I've been told to get 2 sound cards so that I can listen to a tune while another is playing. I assume one tune goes throug...

I'll never forget when Riley faded Martin Luthor king's "I have a dream" speach in and out of a song I was dancing to. I loved it.
