Same thing happened to me, but only with half a playlist before I caught it. Most of the BPMs happened to be only a few beats off my measure, so it wasn't a huge deal, but I didn't want to risk it going awry and not being able to control or even monitor it. And, yes, it is the only reason I don't us...

Borrowed from http://www.austinlindyhop.com/top_20_essential_cds.htm Up front, I must disclaim that boiling down the entire genre of [Jazz] music to [100] CDs or records is a ridiculous enterprise, in and of itself. My own collection is several thousand CDs strong, now, and I still find what could e...

I want to keep the underlying files organized so that I can manage the files, find and replace them, transfer them, back them up more easily BY MYSELF. Yes, a software program CAN do it for me, but that does not mean that it MUST do so or that it is the easiest, most efficient way of doing so. It b...

Why would a person want to keep all/most of their files in a common directory, particularly if they're using iTunes? I don't see any particular advantage to that, and in fact can see quite a few disadvantages, both organizationally and performance-wise (it can take a lot longer to get a directory l...

One screwy thing iTunes does that makes the organization a bit difficult is how it treats "compilations". I was not consistent in my decision to check or uncheck the "compilation" box when I ripped my CDs, so I likely have some that are in the Compilations folder, and some album...

Don't let itunes organize your music. Use something else to maintain the library structure (or do it manually). YES! OH, My GOD, YES!! ITunes completely screwed up my entire music library, even breaking apart all my "various artist" compilations and such to relocate files to new folders t...

Interesting point, but that is the first time I have ever heard the AP referred to as an authoritative source for grammar and style usage. Few of us actually "jockey discs" any more, so technically the entire term should be trashed. But try getting people to refer to us as "laptop son...

Re: Live bands v DJ'd music at dances

The other thing I don't think was covered yet is that the elements that make for a better live performance are almost in contradiction as to what makes great dancing music. Breaking the time, faster tempo, getting away from the four-four, solos and fills, they energize a listener but tax a dancer, ...

Exactly; Jeep Jockey Jump. That was a fantastic performance! Either the judges got it wrong, or the first place performance must have been AMAZING. Nothing individually spectacular, but incredibly fantastic teamwork. Great group-choreography and really well executed! Most group performances feature ...

A secret to danceability is varied sections in a single song. Listening to a swing-era big band arrangement, like "Rockin' the Blues" by Basie, each 12 bar (or 6 8-counts if you prefer) there is a change. If you only had one solo, you have one long (often boring) solo per song. That doesn...

All decent points, and the "disputes/misunderstandings" about the latter guidelines are part of why I listed them lower down. It is tough to describe in written words what I meant by each, and each would get some clarification to avoid those misunderstandings. Regarding using the ride inst...

I'd tend to blame the organizers who keep hiring the same bands, providing only positive feedback despite sub-standard music. It gives a false impression to the musicians that dancers like what/how they are playing and to dancers re-in forces that live music is inferior to recorded music. ABSOLUTEL...

Re: Live bands v DJ'd music at dances

The odd thing is that a band's music is often harder to dance to than DJ'd music (often because the band aren't used to playing for dancers), but despite this a live band will consistently draw more people. Oh my GOD!!! He said it: The Emperor is wearing no clothes! There are obvious counte...

The Kodak software is really intrusive. Numerous people I know have made the mistake of installing it and having to go through the same routine you did (including me). Nathan It is not just Kodak; MANY software companies presume that their programs are the most important and should be pre-loaded. Y...
