The only two suggestions (other than Blossom Dearie) that I have aren't that great:
Pink Martini's Sympathique is one.
There is a guy in France who has a swing band and a website: Christophe Avril: http://www.jazzyaventure.com
It's not GREAT stuff, but the upside is that it IS in French.

Vinyl setups--playing, storing, etc.
I'm about to get into vinyl albums. There's a plethora of the stuff here; it's cheap, and I'm sure there's a lot of stuff that isn't available on CD. My problem is that I know next to nothing about LPs. So I'm looking to you gurus for advice on: 1) What should I look for when buying a turntable? 2) ...

Playing the same musician twice?
...in particular, the same vocalist. What your limit? How many songs between? Obviously, this doesn't include theme nights like 'All Duke, All the Time'.

Getting a request in once in a while makes people feel special--who am I to deny them that? I haven't run into the proble...

I bought a VAIO laptop last year (almost to the year now), and I've been extremely happy with it. My only beef now is that I'm running out of HD space at 30 GBs. I never used the Sonic Stage software--it was too much of a hassle to figure out properly and when I found out all it really does is ATRAC...

Well, it's all a toss up I suppose. The Pocketech 60GB drive is relatively tiny (5x3x0.5 in): $350 The Western Digital 120GB drive is not as tiny (8x6x1.5 in), but still small: $300.00, but with $50.00 rebate The SmartDisc 120GB drive is about the same size as the WD (8x5x1.5): $250.00 Ponder ponder...
