Yeah, f*** 'em. Gimme your $5 and get back on the dance floor, chump. Of course, I very rarely honor requests, because most of the ones I get are "Mildred," "Jump Jive & Wail" or some other nonsense. Half of the time, they are not even song requests but lyric requests. Song i...

NYLHO - Kalman apparently owns nothing

I was wondering if Jesse, Rayned & the other DJs kept set lists for NYHLO. I must have run to the booth about 30 times. Seriously, Rayned spins on Thursday and I owned 2 of the songs - 2! Don't even get me started on Jesse's sets. Just a great event with great DJs and hopefully a new direction f...

What if you have more than one case?

I organize my cases by artist, with big names front-loaded, which means there's a mean 50/50 chance that all five songs would be the same dude.

What I find funny is that everyone I've met always associates "Wade" with the "Westie" scene when I heard it in Lindy circles for a long time before I heard it at a Westie dance. I also associate the song with a particular dancer that I like, so I guess that's another reason why...

I played "Stuttering Blues" at Buffalo Billiards years ago. Sadly, most of the collection is too far into rock 'n' roll to suit me and some of the jump pieces start off great, but wander off later.

As a listening piece, the collection is superb.

No comment on Austin - it's a weird town (lindy aside) for a number of reasons and not just the presence of cheap tequila in Matt's car - but I generally offer bands the opportunity to attend a dance and make their own decisions about what is playable. I guess I'm still under the impression that a p...

Calvin Richardson 2:35 PM

2003 Hollywood label

Yeah yeah, not lindy content but the first track is good blues quality, especially because he sounds like Sam Cooke. Track three was almost a dead on Al Green piece too.

Cripes! Swifty wins hands down but I've got a few of my own... Act I I'm DJing at a Fort Worth event, not particularly known for its discriminating taste in music. This big rockabilly (ahem - poser) guy comes up with his girl, a split second after I hit the play button for a Big Joe Turner selection...
