To pause or not to pause, that is the ?

I think that actually I'm pausing in the 2-3 sec. range. When I used to DJ off of CDs I would use Nero for compilations and put in 6 sec. pause Now I use a lap-top and iTunes so it's whatever pause iTunes defaults to. My best guess is about 2-3 secs.

To pause or not to pause, that is the ?

I have heard that in some scenes the pause is not appreciated. That there is loss of momentum or something. I used to put in at least a 6 sec. pause to allow time to thank your partner or tell them to bugger off or whatever. It just seems polite to me. I heard that in Chicago (for example) the stand...

No wonder I can't find it. Looking at the track list, i think it must be the '36-'37 I was looking for. I don't have the '31 and '31-32 either but i think they overlap some with the Blue Rhythm release. Do you know if it's worth gettting those in addition to the Blue Rhythm release? I have the Mill...

What put me off on Gemm was that when you go to place your order you get the info that the listing merchant has a 60% (in one instance) or a 26% (in another) fulfillment rate on placed orders. So it would seem that the merchant lists it without necessarily having it in stock.

Hi Tom, I've got the Charlie Spivak version and I found one by Kenny Ball and His Jazzmen but the endearing charm of the old Disney version is just not there. The choral group (The Hall Johnson Choir) that did the Disney version is what really makes it for me. On another subject, when are you gonna ...

It's the search for the "sweet alternative versions" that makes it fun for me. Like a Bal tempo version of "Muddy Water" by Lou Rawls that I occasionally play at Hot Water.

I dunno, I find the incessant search for every version of a good song to be a bit overdone sometimes. Ya, there are some sweet alternative versions of things, but some of the DJs take it too far.
Got an example?

I don't get the antipathy towards popular songs, especially good popular songs. Is it because we feel superior to the masses that we look down on their tastes? It's not a matter of antipathy or looking down on anyone or any song. It's fun to suprise someone with a different version and seeing the r...

Wade In The Water

Lately if anybody requests "Wade in the Water" I just smile and say I'll work it into my set and then play the Ramsey Lewis version.

OK, I was able to figure out how to pause, restart, and skip tracks from the lap-top. It is still cumbersome to accomidate a request or to make changes in the playlist so I'm going back to hard wiring the lap-top to the sound system. It was an interesting experiment tho.
