Q: What would you say are the minimum laptop specifications (CPU, ram, # of USB ports, details about power jacks or batteries that might be necessary to avoid hums, speed of hard drive, optical media drive details, inside-the-laptop hard drive space, anything I'm forgetting, etc.) to run Windows XP...

Let's see, copying files probably worth thousands of dollars, how much DJing would that be to pay it off? :P

Interesting point, but that is the first time I have ever heard the AP referred to as an authoritative source for grammar and style usage. Few of us actually "jockey discs" any more, so technically the entire term should be trashed. But try getting people to refer to us as "laptop so...

I still want to get a small tablet-pc for DJing. It would be the ultimate DJ system.

I can't exactly say what about the iPod (and now iPhone) irritates me from a DJ point of view, but I know as it stands I wouldn't use it to DJ with.

I don't see a big deal with it when it's a DJ... but when there's a band playing, and there are dancers siting on the stage, it kills me. It's so very rude to the band. And yes, I've seen it happen often.

Indeed... I find I'm able to look up more from a Screen then if I'm DJing from CDs... it's faster, therefore I get to interact more.

I forget the terminology, but I think "Joint Stereo" is kind of the "VBR" of stereo/mono... in that it compresses the channels and ends up with smaller size than the other stereo option. (I don't use iTunes to rip -- or at all -- so the option for joint stereo might not be there,...

You prejudices against Proper are obvious, and I believe somewhat unfounded. The liner notes of the sets I own (around 30) do not seem to be "just ripped". "Postjudices" would be a more appropriate term in this case  N.B: I didn't say the liner notes were ripped - only the...

I'm not totally buying the bot thing though... I'm on several forums, of which almost all are running the same version (or within a few revisions) of the software. On the ASEDA forum (Atlanta) you can even see when the bots are logged in... usually 2-3 are logged in at any given time, and I've *neve...

You prejudices against Proper are obvious, and I believe somewhat unfounded. The liner notes of the sets I own (around 30) do not seem to be "just ripped". They are almost all well written by Joop Visser... I find them informative, and go beyond almost all liner notes in any other albums I...

The only one I've played in years is the Fletcher Henderson version, which is probably around two and a half minutes. ;)

Bad: they include several Proper box sets Why is that bad? I love all of the Proper Box Sets I've bought. Granted, they are good value for your money (just like Pirate Bay), and they do give you a quick and good overview of an artist's work. But, the tracks are ripped from inferior sources and are ...

Do you guys usually rip in vbr or cbr? Assuming you set them to rip at approximately the same level, is there any audible difference? I rip in VBR High, while i can tell the different between a 128 vs 320 (as i can now confirm with that website), I cannot tell the difference between a 320 CBR and a...

I think i've discussed this before, but what the heck. I prefer not to use any "library" of any sorts, and organize my music as such: + Style/genre + Artist | Compilation Name + Album Title - <track>.Artist - Title.mp3 So for example: d:\music\Classic Swing\Artie Shaw\The Complete Gramercy...
