I've been wondering lately if a kind of musical drift away from even semi-neo swing bands is negatively impacting the lindy scene in a big way. The biggest weekly live dance event in Portland is probably dead (again), and I think one of the reasons is that a lot of dancers around here feel like the...

Lavern Baker - On Revival Day

A classic, I know, but I only got the CD recently and I love her brassy voice.

I'm pretty sure they teach at SDSU. They perform every once in a while, although I'm not too in tune with the blues scene. Hmm ... they're not listed on the faculty page of the jazz department ... But I did find that they are playing the Jazz in June festival in San Diego! http://www.jazzinjune.org/

Was that Morning Edition or All Things Considered or something else?

(i forget the timeline, but i will guestimate at less than 1 year) Jessica Simpson re-releases that SAME CD with 3 new songs. Is there a price reduction? can you trade in? HELL NO You have to buy the brand new CD at full price for 3 friggin songs. That, is a rip! They were ripped off already if the...

The biggest compliment you can give a DJ is playing a song that you heard them play ... so I always like to ask if I hear something I like and I'm always very free if someone asks me.

Jeannie and Jimmy Cheatham and the Sweet Baby Blues Band

Does anyone know if these guys still play? The most recent thing I could see is that they are residents of San Diego as of Feb 2003. http://www.sandiegometro.com/2003/feb/bhm2.html Just curious because I am 100% in love with their albums and I would do many unspeakable things to see them perform live.

Yeah, it does. But strangely, it's getting a good rating on IMDB, which I usually trust. Maybe we should reserve judgement til we've seen it. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0358722/ Riiiiiight ... and people loved the stage version of Swing! too. That thing had some of the worst lindy hop I've ever se...

There's other situations that lack of an orginal CD doesn't necessarily prove that you are infringing. It makes things to be a bit of a mess. * The copyright holder decided to use free MP3s as a distribution channel * Burned MP3s from a provider like iTunes * Backup/burned CDs used after the origina...

Re: Legitimately Owned Music and DJing

Maybe the lawyers on the Board can clear things up, I can't quote any statutes. But, I am under the impression that if you can prove something is stolen and you work with the police, used dealers will have to surrender the stolen goods. Of course, how do you prove that you own a CD? Do you need to ...

Should a DJ demonstrate that they actually own music before they promote themselves as DJs in a competitive scene? If so, what is an acceptable percentage of legitimately owned music (100%, 80%)? Call me a cynic, naieve, whatever, but I believe that should be up to each individual's consience. In t...

Little more info needed ... exactly what type of stereo are they looking for? Boombox? Mini-shelf system? Does it need to be able to do Dolby Digital or DTS? Multi disc capacity? XM satellite capability (hey, it's available). And what exatly is "medium price?" Different definitions for dif...
