I don't normally buy compilation CDs, but...

Ok, so I happened upon this Big Band box set today. I know it's $90, but it's also 40 cds. 40! It has a substantial amount of music by each of 18(?) artists, at least 2 cds per person. For the amount of music that's included and the fact that it's an import, the price seems pretty low to me, which l...

I am too. I'm wondering if it won't go better at odd hours.

Probably not.

Tried Half.com yet? I just put stuff on my wish list and get an email when there's one in stock.

Yeah, I use it as a practice cd sometimes. Just pop it in and go, everything's great. Skyliner's one of my faves and Dunkin' a Donut! So good! I also really like the Goodman version of One o'clock Jump, it really kicks.

I've got this ghetto big band compilation cd set, that's actually got some really great stuff on it...but several of the songs are mislabeled. One cd has the same song twice in a row, another one has two songs listed that aren't on the cd and a couple of songs are switched with the one right next to...

Lately I've been cataloguing all my music, counting the BPM for each song and making a note of it. I've gotten so in tune with BPMs that I can now guess the BPM of a song and usually get it within about 10 or 20. Anybody else experience something similar? Yeah, I've been fairly good about this in t...

remember that most of Louis Prima's music was written more for his Las Vegas lounge act than for dancers. Was late Prima still swing?? I thought he was driving a 2/4 oompah band. Well, it does sound like Vegas music, and I don't think that much of his music (at least what's "popular") swi...

Excellent CD compilation. Every track is good for dancing, and the style is what you seem to like. Sound quality is good too, as Ryan said. I usually avoid buying comps, but this one is excellent. Most of the songs are somewhat common, but not so much so that they can be found on every "swing c...

I like to challenge myself to estimate the bpm of a song and then later on look it up or calculate it. With practice you can get a ballpark range (with much more error at faster tempos) right off the bat. It helps to know one or two milestone songs so well that you can hear it in your head at the p...

Ugh! Every time I hear someone play a Real Group recording of anything at a dance venue I want to reach out and smack the dj upside the head. I've had alot of experience with music in this style; and I think the Real Group, while they have some interesting arrangements, sound very canned and sterile...

That's interesting, because I think of pop music as anything that's popular, hence the term "pop[ular] music". At one time jazz and big band were considered pop music.

Those answers are possibly correct, but not the answer I was looking for. Two that pop into my head right away are: Greensleeves and Scarborough Fair. There are many more, but those are the first two popular songs that I think of. Yeah, Yakov...all the theory talk can just be confusing. I understand...
