Hi Doug, The first thing I noticed is the selections don't seem to be 1950s bands. Actually, two were 50s groups, one from the 80s, and the remaining were from 1999 and more recent. I said I cheated :? In reading the comments of choices the pro dance DJs made on the music, I was a wee bit surprised...

I'll bet that if you go to balboanation.com and ask (nicely) Marty K. will provide you with the track list with artists.

Now if you want the Invitational J&J track list - you have to ask me (nicely) and I will refer you to the nation where it has been published. :)

Getting back on the thread topic: Having moved from WCS to Lindy/Bal in part due to the nonswinging nature of the WCS music and in part due to the inherent low energy of the down tempo songs, I am not a fan of non-swinging music - almost ever - at a Lindy event. I do think that the right answer to r...

<snip> For my mony, _most_ music played by westie DJs does not swing. <snip> It depends on how you define swing music. <snip> You notice that I didn't say "swing music", I said that the music does not swing. Very different statements. When I first started dancing as a westie tempos were s...

So Betzi & I started as westies (actually as CW 2-steppers, but I don't want to go there!) and we still know, hang and dance (some) with the westies. For my mony, _most_ music played by westie DJs does not swing. Or is that just a local phenomenon?

Paul - an additional point re music that swings and music that doesn't. Most of the DJs on this board are, and DJ for, Lindy dancers. One of the core elements of Lindy and, some might argue, any swing dance, is triples. (step, step triple-step triple-step, OR step step triple-step step step triple-s...

what's the definition of a song swinging then? i can dance the same to a swing as i can to a non swing song so there's no difference there. People can dance swing to someone counting to eight as evenced by too many of the dance classes. But that doesn't make counting swing. if you're talking catego...

Although I only knew one of the songs I jumped in with both feet just so some smartass like Rayned wouldn't have a chance to get them all!

Hey - each of us can only do what we can do. :?

Hope that "solicited" comment referred to everyone, not just Jerry.

Mystry 6 is Benny's Bugle with Benny Goodman & Charlie Christian on guitar from the album http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&uid=UIDMISS70311161004380427&sql=A11jueay34xg7 which is an old school DJ essential. And Ron - although you & I generally have different tastes, Mystery 1 is ...

Turnabout, Jerry.

Jerry - I couldn't let your comments about our collective prefered audio fidelity pass unanswered. It was almost as though you were implying that it was the lo-fidelity of the recordings that created the sound that we like to dance to, and that hifi recordings would be viewed as undanceable. So I fi...

Essentially the only time I play a non-swing song is last song of the night. In the venue in which I DJ regularly, that has come to be expected and is the sign that the dancers should pack up and leave. But I usually try to make the tune jazz, and I usually try to make it danceable - dontcha know th...
