What an interesting topic. Yeah, in Seattle some of the top dj's there were and are female. Hep Jen and DJ Leslie (going way back here) were the original swing dj's in Seattle. I started djing after that and now Brenda dj's. There are some other females that occasionally dj in Seattle but they aren'...

I am definately going to attempt to organize something for the newbie dj's in town...maybe even a list of favorite artists, etc. to reference and tips. Especially since there are so many new dj's wanting to get up in the booth right now. Leigh is going to be djing the Century this month...I recommen...

Peter, Sugar AND Reuben?? in Seattle
One of Seattle's favorite dj's, Reuben Brown will be spinning the tunes at this event...I have heard through the grapevine that Mike Faltesek is going to possibly be coming to this event as well...hopefully we can convince him to spin some tunes while he is there as well! The next Jitterbug Weekend ...
Good point...there is definately a balance with the more advanced dancers getting annoyed with sucking it up to make that person happy by playing a neo song or whatever. It is a tough call sometimes...I hate hurting people's feelings so it is an uncomfortable situation for me. I don't carry any stuf...

we have a handful of great dj's in Seattle...Kevin being one of them. There are some new dj's in Seattle now that are just learning...if they are steered in the right direction, then Seattle will continue to be bad ass. Kevin and I talked about getting together with the upcoming dj's to talk to them...
This is a great thread...I posted something about requests on a different thread before I saw this one. My original question is whether or not you should agree to play a song that sucks just because it is a request. I usually won't do it, but I do try to get out of it as politely as possible. I only...

Songs that swing hard, but bomb on the dance floor??
There is a song I have tried to dj about 2 times in the past year, and it is awesome, but people seem to freak out when I play it. It is Fats Waller's Aint Misbehavin' (the version from the movie Stormy Weather)...the song starts out slower (about 130) but swings hard...then, the band BUSTS out fast...

Yeah man! We can't wait for you to get down here! The more You DJ the better! I seriously hope Seattle doesn;t go to shit...but I'm sure you left it in good hands. Seattle should be in good hands...we have some strong dj's like Travis, Joon and Kevin T that represent with the old stuff. Also, I am ...

Wow, this is a great resource...I just found out about this in detail during the Lindy Summit. Thanks Peter, I am glad you like my djing! That means a lot coming from a swing/jazz music coniseur like yourself. I thought the dj battle was such a great concept...it was really fun and I loved the forma...
