I think Joel is big on Anyone Seen Jackson. -Kevin Yeah Teagarden's pretty cool. "Has Anyone Seen Jackson?" is my latest Teagarden album. Basically on every Teagarden album I have I like about two or three songs on it and everything else is okay. None of them have really grabbed me for th...

Same thing up here in Vancouver. Me and my partner Louise have been holding special event dances every so often. Our scene really gets barely any exposure to the old vintage stuff. I think it's kind of hard to expect venues and D.J's to change how they play immediately. Rather we've been doing occas...

you'd think folks going to a "Christmas Bash" would hope to have some holiday tunes to dance to eh? Well SOME Christmas music anyway Brenda! I've got one I'm going to be breakin' out but's that's only because swings' harder than hell! Which is a huge feat seeing as how 99.9% of the...

The song that definetely remains closest to my hear and really, to me, defines why I like to dance is Fltecher Henderson's "Sugarfoot Stomp." I've fot a few versions of it but the version I really like is the one off the "Tidal Wave" cd. That's the song that Henderson's band woul...

Nate Dogg wrote: Folks, leave Austin out of this. Lawrence opinions and statements are his own. Matt Jones, George, myself, Jeramie, Colin, Scott, et al have nothing to do with this fight.

2) how playing a vintage song can sometimes COMPLETELY DESTROY the vibe at a dance if it is not worked in appropriately. Man if that's even close to representative of what Austin's D.J's think about music in general then I am going to stay as far away from there as I possibly can! As has already be...

But I was playing at the outdoor dance, and I asked the crowd "do you want something slower, or faster?". They all said slower, and I proceeded with Lunceford Special. Ah, the Seattle Exchange, good times. Harrison HA! Yeah I remember you telling me about that. Pretty funny stuff!. . . Oh...

And Joel, simply because I feel that ECS is truly for only the greatest of dancers, and same with the music affiliated with it. So why should I share it with the rest of the peon population? AH HA! I KNEW IT! I knew there was a secret organization of dancers out there practicing East Coast behind l...

"can you play some swing music?" Dude that's my favorite comment in the whole world! I've gotten that one a couple times for playing vintage stuff. It's the best comment you could EVER get! And why don't you play more BBVD Harrison? You've got one of the most bad-ass East Coast basics I'v...

Yeah I just wanted to see what everyone has done with music that many of us, at one point, where into. Even though the music now drives me batty and off the wall I still have it and, on occasion, play it. For example, I was D.Jing at a dance a month ago and, for the first hour from 8-9, the only peo...

Neo Swing in your binder?

So here's a fun and interesting question: Back in the day many of us purchased more than a few "Neo-Swing" c.d's. (If you never bought a neo-swing c.d then this question is not for you.) As years have past it's become less and less cool to play these c.d's. (And for damn frickin' good reas...

Yeah it's "We'll Meet Again" that's used. Besides "Strangelove" was shot in 1964 and "What a Wondeful World" wasn't waxed until 1968.

Yeah the Ella versions not bad but Big Bill Broonzey's cut will always be, in my books, my all time favorite version.
