How good they are really depends on the organising and the venues like any gig. I was at a festival 2 weeks ago and it has a second stage, which was a tiny room that seated about 80 people and you were only about 10 feet from the band. I was just fantastic. Of curse there was no dancing in that venu...

Jazz Parties / Festivals

I'm wondering if any of anyone on the board ever to along to any of the Jazz Festivals or Jazz Parties. I've never heard anyone talking about going to see musicians like Bob Wills, Dan Barrett, Pete Fountain, Keith Ingham and the list goes on and on and no! Over here (Australia) there is a few of us...

One benefit I see in dancers wanting to be Swing DJ's is it gets them interested in form in the music. Considering most Lindy hoppers wouldn't know how Fletcher Henderson is if you asked them, having them showing an interest in the music has to be an up side on some form. Now you just have to encour...

I assume you are talking about the later recording (1930s) of it.
Keith Nichols has recording a very nice transcription of the 1926 (I Think) recording.

I use to use a system like this one for about a year. http://cachemi.zzounds.com/media/fit,400by400/quality,85/brand,zzounds/Escort-On-Stand-a679cf4e946bbc1f45784b1a0b410f76.jpg They are very handy systems, and easy to use. Sound quality was good for 70 or less people. For personal use worth having...

The Big 18 are a studio 1950's band that released 2 albums. These two albums are very difficult to get our hands on for LP or CD as they have been out of print for years now. If you are likely to find them new, it will be on one of those dark dusty jazz shops that most people are afraid to go into. ...

I'm interested to know Dave, what’s the RMS output of your boom box and also what size are the cone and horn drivers.
I don't see how they could be similarly matched to a system like the
Peavey Escort or Passport!

Early live filmed jazz gigs.

Hi. I'm doing some researching as always and now I'm looking for some very early live recordings of bands that were caught on film in whatever form. I'm looking at the 40's period. I sure there are also some 30's material out there. Please note, I'm taking about a proper "Live" gig with au...

Was it an anolog or digital recording? It would be great if you can leave those unmastered samples up. I is always interesting to compair the pre-mastered version with the mastered version. It's amazing everything that can be done in the mastering stage. It can really make a good sounding track into...

Well done. That sounds like it's going to come up really good.

How would you compare this last recording session to your previous ones?

For small events (classes/practice sessions), I'd prefer a decent boom box. For larger events (>40 people), I'd prefer to go up to powered speakers. Mackie's sound nice if you are willing to spend the money on them. EV's are OK if you're on a budget, better than the passport but not as good as Mack...
