Ella Fitzgerald - Sing Song Swing

It's not that the music is bad. It's actually kinda nice. Maybe it's just my asian half, but those words are just wrong.

Charlie My Boy

I DJ at the Carolina shag club that hosts our weekly lindy night. It's not uncommon to have older shaggers show up and make comments like "This is the music I grew up on.", etc. This week, I had a drunk 60-ish year-old shagger ask me if I had "Charlie My Boy". He wanted me to pla...

I enjoy Curtis Fuller 's stuff, but most of his CDs have only 6 songs and all are 6+ min long. If you use iTunes, you can check out Blues-ette . I'm also pretty partial to J.J. Johnson and Al Grey's version of "Things Ain't What They Used To Be" from Things Are Getting Better All The Time .

This looks kind of interesting - hard to tell if one of the two "Lester Leaps In" has vocals, but Joe Williams is on the credits. Strangely enough, I just listened to that disc for the first time on Monday. It's really good. Strangely enough, I just played "Jumping With Symphony Sid&...

Re: Stuff Smith

...as well as perhaps the fact that violin is better-suited to classical music.. I did overlook the "fiddle" players of the world, but Hee-Haw fiddlers frankly are not the most jazz-inclined, either. You're overlooking a whole lot of very well-trained fiddle players, many of whom make the...

Major Holley

I just stumbled upon a nice version of "All of Me" recorded by Roy Eldridge on Little Jazz and the Jimmy Ryan All-Stars . It clocks in around 206 bpm and features Major Holley on the 2nd verse singing in unison w/ his bass. Can anyone recommend other danceable tunes that feature Major Holl...

The Raleigh area scene is growing on some ways and declining in others. The number of intermediate/advanced dancers is definitely growing. The number of beginners is dropping, but we're doing a better job of keeping them in the scene, I think.

I just got it a couple of hours ago. Listening over decent headphones via a crappy sound card on my work laptop, the sound quality is still pretty good. The noise level seems to be pretty low, all things considered. All recordings are mono. All in all, I'm pretty happy. As for the pricier collection...

Cats & the Fiddle - We Cats Will Swing for You

Maybe somebody's already posted about this: I don't have much in the way of details about this, but it looks like there's a comp of Cats & the Fiddle tracks that got released on Oct 21. It's available for < $13 online. It's got several tracks I hear at events from time to time, including Gangbus...
