I had someone ask for a hustle song last night. Fortunately I was able to just say "Go upstairs" since there's a wcs/hustle dance upstairs from the lindy one.

I don't like his voice. It grates very quickly. I DO like his version of One Mint Julep however though. *shrug*

Just wanted to cast one more vote for Live at the Sands. Every once and awhile I pull out a different version just to make sure I'm not in a rut, but then realize I don't like whatever different version it was as well.

If someone requests a song that I find overplayed, I'll still generally play it if I have it unless there's very good reasons not to. If one person wants to hear it, others probably will too. Exceptions would be if I'm djing at an event not a nightly dance and I've already heard it from another dj, ...

mislabeled cds?

Has anyone else ever bought a cd and found it to be entirely mislabeled? I bought (used) Amos Milburn - the Essential Recordings. It sat around for a long time (long enough that I don't remember when or where I bought it). When I finally went to listen to it, I found that while the liner notes, cd l...

I still like it, and enjoy dancing to it. I'll play it in Portland, but wouldn't play it out of town because I know so many people are sick of it.

I played a version of that (from the Best of the Army Air Force Band) last week, and another dj wouldn't believe me that it was actually Glenn Miller.

Not that we have a regular live music night anymore but... in Portland that would have been a disaster since we've got a couple of local bands known for taking 45 minute band breaks.

I use something like that one, I just print out my own little sheets for each cd with info about them and slip them in on top of the cd.

Hmmm. After doing some looking, I found this place called jazz: http://www.hiptravelguide.com/amsterdam ... ws-61.html

Looks like about the same place so perhaps they've changed their name. Even if it's not, it looks cool :)

I actually spent a bunch in a really cool jazz store in Amsterdam. I believe it was called Blue Note. A pain to find, but not too far from the red light district. (It was listed in the local shopping info sheet I picked up but I can't seem to find info about it online).
