Which reminds me, remember when Manu had the Name That Swing Song with DJs at the 2001 SF exchange? Someone should do that again sometime. Then we can all show off our swords. We could do the online version. Have someone upload an untitled chunk of a song somewhere and have people try to figure it ...

I really liked HRO at Harlem, but my favorite was Lily Wilde at the Portland exchange a couple of years ago --- her full in-town band was there (normally when we see her in Seattle she has a traveling band), and it was an excellent combination of a hot band, a good floor, enough room to dance, and ...

I'm in a somewhat similar situation with the main place I've been djing for the last couple of years. It used to be a 3-4 dj rotation so I knew exactly when I'd be up next, and with a reasonable amount of time between nights. For the last 6 months or so, more and more people have been added to the r...

I've been playing with one called Musicat lately. It doesn't do quite everything I want, but it's been pretty helpful so far. (I did have to resort to exporting to html with some javascript to make it print cd labels quite how I wanted though)

I just realized that most of the vocals I play are female. Anyone have suggestions on male vocalists I should check out?

I'm pretty sure this is the version I've had in my head the past 2 days - it gets played a lot in Seattle; and I really like it - so I'm struggling - do I play something very familiar? or do I go with something more risky? Maren played a Nina Simone version at the exchange up there that I quite like.

At the place I DJ the most, a 4:00 song is adequate (as long as there isn't a line in the women's room) but I usually aim for something around 5:00 just to be sure :)
