(see below) You could say the same thing about George Gee, Leonard Bernstein, Jimmie Lunceford, Paul Whiteman, or the conductor of your high-school marching band... but you'd be wrong. Just because a bandleader...

my choice would be the ridiculously expensive import cds by THE CATS AND THE FIDDLE, DELTA RHYTHM BOYS and THE LARKS. i sent proper records an e-mail, maybe they'll do a Box of that tight harmony jazz/doo-wop stuff... man do i love that music

CDR = time bomb?

a few messages on this forum seem to imply that CD-Rs inevitably fail after a certain amount of time... is this true? some of my CDR discs that i copied last year are, maddeningly, giving telltale "scratch" noises in some places... is there a better brand i should be buying? i was kind of ...

very, very relevant to this entire discussion is the massive 1000-page tome A NEW HISTORY OF JAZZ by Alyn Shipton ($35 list in paper, 30% off at Amazon last I checked) ... i've been reading from it at random whenever i get a chance... it talks a lot about the influences that created jazz, the develo...
